JOE SMITH PRESENTS CONCERT PIANIST ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - Joe Smith, 89, half the longtime vaudeville team of Smith and Dale, was seen in a new role here recently — that of impresario — as he presented concert pianist Barbara Blackstone in a recital of Brahms, Bach and Beethoven at the Actors Fund of America home where he lives. Charlie Dale died, at 90, in 1971 here. Smith and Dale started out as singers and dancers in 1898 and later added comedy to their act. One of their famous routines depicted “Dr. Kronkhite” and his patient, “Mr. Dubious.” Their last appearance was in 1968 at the Lambs Club. Smith and Dale were said to be the inspiration for the Broadway show about two vaudevillians, “The Sunshine Boys.” Mrs. Blackstone, who studied at the Juilliard School and Mannes college of Music, is the wife of Dr. Michael Blackstone of Englewood Cliffs. She often performs for senior citizens and hospitals. DANCERS UNITE FOR ONE BALLET SPOLETO, Italy (AP) - Jerome Robbins has invited 10 of the world’s leading dancers to appear in a program for this summer’s 16th Festival of Two Worlds here. He has organized a presentation of pas de deux by couples from five nations with an entree and finale which he will choreograph for all 10 dancers. The dancers are Patricia McBride and Helgi Tomasson, United States; Carla Fracci and Paolo Bortoluzzi, Italy; Violette Verdy and Jean-Pierre Bonnefous, France; Antoinette Sibley and Anthony Dowell, England, and Malika Sabirova and Muzafar Brzhabov, U.S.S.R. Also, each couple will perform two pas de deux of their own choosing.

LA PHILHARMONIC TO TOUR IN ’74 LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Philharmonic will make a six-week, 19-city tour of Europe in the fall of 1974. Music director Zubin Mehta will conduct all of the 32 concerts, in seven countries. The tour opens in London during the BBC’s Prom Concerts. THEY’LL TELL AUTOMATICALLY BOSTON (AP) — Automated teller devices, standing alone or embedded in building walls, are gaining rapid favor among U.S. bankers, Arthur D. Little Inc. reports. First introduced in Europe and Japan several years ago, the card-activated devices for 24-hour banking service first appeared in this country in 1968. Today there are more than 1,000 automated tellers in U.S. banks, and probably twice that many more are on order. FOR THE YEAR 1973

SECTION ONE: Be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Greencostle, Indiana: That the Police Department shall consist of eleven (11) men and in addition, not to exceed four (4) school patrolmen and that the maximum base pay, not including longevity, shall be as follows: Police chief s 7,943.00 Assistant chief l 7,189.00 Captains (2) ‘7,017.00 Sergeants (4) *6,843.00 Patrolmen (3) *6,752.00
