Dr. Nichols Retires, Calls G’castle Home

sity, Dr. Nichols was born in Waterbury, Conn. However, Greencastle is still considered her home since the Nichols family moved here when Ann was one year old. An article in an October 1952 edition of the Putnam County Graphic labeled Dr. Nichols the third, or possibly the fourth woman physician to practice in PutnamCounty. Yet since that time she has been the only woman doctor, and one of the main obstetricians in the county. In her early years she attended Second Ward School, and graduated from Greencastle High School. Dr. Nichols attended DePauw, majoring in math; holding minors in both physical education and zoology. Following her graduation from DePauw, she went on to get her master’s degree in physical education from the University of Iowa. For a time she taught physical education at DePauw, Lakeville and Kankakee, 111. Ladoga — Continuedfrom Page l
