But do the politicians scream against cigarettes? Americans are drinking much purer water nowadays than back in 1910. as per government statistics! And there are fewer solid particles in the air now than back in 19H). for then almost every house used coal, so soot was everywhere! Admittedly, some factories are polluting streams, rivers and lakes, and such con lamination needs to be corrected, to preserve fish and aquatic fowls. . But our propagandized Congress itself stampeded like cattle to pass the "Pure Water Bill" last year, which demands loo percent pure water by 1985 Which chemists say is entirely impossible to achieve! And would cost us taxpayers $2 2 TRILLIONS of dollars in new taxes (more than the Gross National Product of the entire planet Karth'i So learn to read your newspaper carefully for BOTH sides of issues! ABC To Give Taste Of Burns-Schreiber
B\ JA YSHA RBI 7 7 AP Television H riier NFW YORK (AP) I he ABC Television network tonight is giving us a one-hour advance taste of what satirists Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber will do in their new Saturday night summer scries on ABC. I he series officially starts June 30. Burns and Schreiber are two very funny guvs who've been kicking around for years without much national recognition of their talents. Their new comedy-variety show probablv will rectify this matter. Tonight's offering is a good start, even though it may not always leave you rolling on the floor. Several skits don’t come off particularly one about a pretentious suburban couple but the entire hour generallv is heads and shoulders above most comedy-variety shows on TV. both in pace and writing. Things commence with Burns and Schreiber arriving on stage clad in tuxedoes. They obviously are uneasy about wearing such duds
“l ook at this tie.” Schreiber grumbles, jabbing a finger at his black how tie. “1 feel like I’m walking around wearing a dead hat." From there it’s on to a plush night club, where Burns tries to give his pal lessons in suave and how to pick up girls. He's promptly rejected by one lady Valerie Harper who says: "Look at his hair he's trying to prove the wet look isn't dead ” Their show promises to brighten a television summer that previously threatened to be as lively as a barbiturate souffle. Turning to international affairs. the CBS. NBC and ABC networks all say they'll carry Soviet Communist leader Leonid I. Brezhnev's address to the United States at 6 p.m. Sunday. 1 he v ideotaped speech, w hich lasts 30 minutes, will include a simultaneous .English translation. Will there by any "instant analysis*’ of Brezhnev’s speech.’ No way. say ABC and CBS. NBC says there might he ’ a little hit.
