Judge Sharp’s big audience shows the usual women’s attitudr about "cheesecake in the boudoir.” Successful wives approve. But those whose mates are straying, then blame their husbands instead of facing up to the real facts! CASE X-539: Judge William T. Sharp asked me to address an annual banquet of his city’s Chamber of Commerce. It was to be Ladies’ Night and

the dinner was held at Canyon Inn. in Hoosierland’s famous McCormick Creek State Park. The packed dining room gave me a very appreciative audience, with the exception of maybe 2 per cent of the wives. "Dr. Crane,” a couple of the wives protested, “we wish you had explained in more detail your statement that the best insurance against divorce is cheesecake in the boudoir instead of roast beef in the dining

room.” But 3 or 4 other ladies told the charming 50-year-old woman at the Hotel Desk that they were furious about my even mentioning cheesecake in the boudoir. “Dr. Crane,” this desk clerk then added, “I definitely told them that you were 100 per cent correct about cheesecake in the boudoir. “For you can see that I have held my weight down to the

same as when I got married. “If I ever went up 2 or 3 pounds, I immediately brought it down. “My husband was tall and weighed 195 on our wedding day. “But he slowly reached 210, then finally 225, after which I put him on a diet till he got back under the 200-mark. "And we were happily married for 30 years, till I lost him bv death.

“But if these women whose toes you step on, would just follow your advice, they wouldn't try to pass the buck and blame you or the outside siren when their husband starts chasing around. “Dr. Crane, I told them so and let them know that I had personally tried your suggestions and that they worked perfectly!” Actually, it is a compliment when wholesome Hpbate

develops over this column or my public lectures. For it is controversy that fills football stadiums! This word-of-mouth debate is an ideal form of advertising, as William R. Hearst, Sr., told me when I first launched this “Worry Clinic.” “Dr. Crane,” he urged, “don’t hesitate to ‘needle’ stodgy wives, as well as soporific clergymen and lazy professors. “Make them squirm till they

write redhot letters to our newspapers. “Then we’ll print such letters and thus develop the best-read page in the entire paper!” Despite my “needling” of them, women have always rated this “Worry Clinic” first place on reader polls. For women want to learn the viewpoint of their husbands and I offer it in this daily column. Many husbands never confess their true feelings to their w^'es

but they do tell us medics, so women are eager to discover the real attitude of men. Most women are very gracious, and smilingly congratulate me after a public address even though they may say: “Dr. Crane, I certainly enjoyed your lecture, but I don’t always agree with what you say in your newspaper column!”
