Eight Homes, Needlecraft Exhibit Opened To Visitors On CWF House Tour
Sunshine and warm weather greeted throngs of visitors yesterday as they made their rounds on the Christian Women’s Fellowship House Tour. Six homes and two apartments were opened to visitors yesterday and an exhibit of needlecraft was displayed in parlors of the First Christian Church. Points of interest on the tour included: The home of Colonel and Mrs. Thomas Robbins at 107
Ravenswood Drive in the Sherwood Addition. This home offered several features of interest to visitors, including fine old family furnishings, articles collected by the Robbins while living abroad, and paintings and ceramics executed by Colonel and Mrs. Robbins. The home of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Allen at 615 Ridge Avenue. The Allen home is of traditional style in which antique furniture and modern reproductions have been nicely combined with treasures secured on travels abroad.
Visitors of the Allen home were most intrigued by Mrs. Allen’s spoon collection, consisting of more than 500 spoons from all over the world and one which was taken to the moon. The Frank Hutcheson home on 202 Greenwood Drive in the Green Meadow Addition. This cream colored stucco house is in Spanish style of architecture. The focus of interest in the large living room is the fireplace, built of old bricks against a rough paneled wall. The mantel was handhewn by Mr. Hutcheson
from a walnut log retrieved from an old covered bridge. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beaman of Airport Road. This all-electric home is round in its construction. The house, 45 feet in diameter, is built of rough-sawed cedar, and is centered with a great round fireplace of field stone. The Lloyd Wells home at 623 Westlane Road. The Wells planned this house, laid up all the exterior stone, and did the interior finishing. The do-it-yourself home is set on a hill overlooking a meadow. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gedert on 1216 Bloomington St. at 1 Ottowa Park. The interesting aspect of this home is that it is a modular home, delivered in two sections bolted together and placed on a full basement. This home is an example of the posibilities that modular houses offer for
NOTICE Wedding articles and pictures submitted more than two (2) weeks after the ceremony will no longer be considered for publication. Wedding forms are available free of charge for your convenience at the BannerGraphic office. It is suggested that wedding forms be picked up before the wedding in order to allot the proper amount of time required for the completion and return of this form before the two (2) week deadline. Pictures submitted should be black and white photos with sharp, clear details. Color photos are NOT adaptable for newspaper use. If a picture of the bride alone is to be used, it is preferable that the picture be submitted a few days before the ceremony so that there will be time to do necessary processing in order to publish the picture and story a day or so after the ceremony.

I was playing with my spouse in a mixed pair event and got to four hearts. As anyone can plainly see, there was no way in the world for me to go down, since my only losers were a trump, a diamond and a club. But I did go down, and furthermore I was the only one in the room who failed to make four hearts. You see, there was this Little Old Lady on my left — the kind you’re always writing about in the column — who, by hook or crook, manages to make mincemeat out of the experts. Her opening lead, beheve it or not, was the king of clubs! I won with the ace and led a trump, whereupon the LOL on my left took the ace and returned the jack of clubs. I covered with the queen, which East ruffed, and East returned a spade. There was no way for me to avoid losing a diamond and another club, and I wound up with a cold zero on the hand. When the session was over and my dear spouse learned that I was the only one in the tournament to miss four hearts, she vowed never to play with me again. I tried to explain there was nothing I could nave done under the circumstances, but my wife is by nature a pragmatist and holds me personally responsible for the outcome of the hand. Is there any advice you can give me? Sincerely, Constant Reader. TOPS #600 TOPS #600 Cloverdale, met Monday evening with 15 members weighing in. Ann Rutenburg was crowned queen of the week. Betty Cummings and Mildred Sandy were the “Wise Old Owls.” Debbie Sutherlin was named queen for the month of May. A dinner was held on May 29 in honor of Annie and Velma Conner, who received their Keep Off Pounds Sensibly (K.OPS) rating Thirteen members were present. Anyone wishing to join TOPS, should call 795-4041. The next meeting will be held on June 11, at 6:30 p.m.
Dear C.R.: I have no idea what you should do about getting your wife to resume playing with you again, but I would like to suggest that as a
