Today The West Madison Extension Homemakers Club will meet on Wednesday, May 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Thelma Johns will be the hostess and will also give the lesson on “Making Our Community a Better Place to Live.” The Greencastle Business and Professional Women’s Club will meet on Wednesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sherwood Christian Church. The speaker for the evening will be Bette Bertram, discussing personality development. Yearly dues are payable at this meeting. Qoverdale Chapter #369, OES, will hold their regular stated meeting on Wednesday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. Officers are to wear formats. The new district deputy will be present. Thursday The Bainbridge Study Club will meet with Mrs. A.D. Wilms on Thursday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m. The program will be given by Mrs. Wilbur Day. Special plans will be made for our June meeting.

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Moore wish to announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Kathy Sue, to James H. Wetfgate, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Westgate, Jacksonville, Fla. Kathy is a senior at Greencastle High School and is employed at Putnam County Hospital. James is employed at Bonded Service Station. A May 26 wedding is planned.

Friday The next regular meeting of the Putnam County Chapter of the Americai association of Retired Persons (AARP)will meet on Friday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at the Gobin Memorial Methodist Charterhouse. All members of NRTA (National Retired Teachers Association) and all persons eligible for membership in both groups are invited. Monday There will be a Spring Coffee Membership Meeting of the Putnam County Hospital Guild in Room 221 of the DePauw Student Union on Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. This will conclude 16 years of service for the Hospital Guild in Putnam County. Tri Kappa Convenes At French Lick
The French Lick-Sheraton Hotel in French Lick, Indiana was the scene of the 40th State Convention of Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc., May 10, II and 12. Club Meets At Indy May 8, the Crafty Stitchers Club met in the L.S. Ayers Tea Room in Indianapolis. Club president, Dorothy Vorehm was the spokesman for the group who were guests on the Carolyn Churchman W.F.B.M. Radio Show. Following the program, the members shopped, then met back at the Tea Room for lunch. Members attending were: President, Dorothy Vorehm; Secretary-Treasurer, Carol Costin; Karen McDonnall, Melody Blueball, Edna Minkler, Margaret Archer and Rita McDaniel. Notice The called meeting of the Applegate Lodge #155 will be held Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. Work will be in the Master Mason degree. Visiting brothers are welcome. Brothers please bring a pie.
The Convention’s theme for 1973 was “Tri Kappa, Indiana’s Helping Hand.” The delegate from Beta Psi, Greencastle who attended was Mrs. Karol Underwood. Others attending were Mrs. James Lett and Mrs. Audrey Walton. Mrs. Merle Troyer was the delegate from the Greencastle Associate Chapter. The Convention was under the direction of Mrs. Milo Mitchell, Linton, Council President, and the other members of the Council who comprised her committee were: Mrs. Robert Batton, vice president, Kentland; Miss Patricia Kehl, secretary, Connersville; Mrs. C. Gorden Hayes, Treasurer, Terre Haute; Mrs. Donald Hunsicker, adviser, Hobart. Hostesses were the active and associate chapters of Linton. In keeping with the convention’s theme, instead of the usual favors given to convention goers, 10 per cent of all registration fees were given in the name of the attendance at the convention to the Indiana Special Olympics and Mental Health project of Tri Kappa, plus 51,000 was given for trophies and ribbons for the Special Olympics. A vote of the convention de-
signated the amount of 515,000 which has accrued over the past two years in Ripley Hospital Project fund to purchase a kidney machine for children. $1,000 was designated for an arteriosonde, (blood pressure instrument for bum patients.) Winners of Province level art competition displayed their art work. The picture titled “Somewhere in Kentucky” by J. Mercer of Brazil won the Most Popular Award. Province scrapbook winners competed within their winning category Active chapter winners were: Most Activity, Alpha Pi from Auburn; Most Original, Alpha Omega from Brazil; Most Artistic, Beta Mu from Rochester; Most Publicity, Beta Iota from Peru. Tri Kappa was founded in 1901 and has grown continuously until now in 1973 there is a total membership of over 13,000 women all over Indiana, working together “to bring women into close, unselfish relationship for the promotion of charity, culture and education.” These three aims achieve the perfect balance of Tri Kapppa to maintain the status of a completely philanthropic organization whose purpose is to serve its fellow man.
All profit from chapters’ fundraising must always be used to promote charity, culture and education. Almost without exception the profits are given as contributions within the
chapters’ communities and the state of Indiana. To date, Tri Kappa’s financial gifts to Indiana since April 1971 total well over three quarters of a million dollars.
