To The Telephone: I am told by a gentleman who should know that Mr. Bradfute, editor of The Telephone, made the campaign fight for the Republican party and Mr. Hoover under the belief that there was no chance at all of a Republican victory, and that he often told other Republican leaders of this belief both before and during the campaign. Those who do not agree with the Republicanism of Bradfute must respect the fight he made in the face of a defeat he held to be certain this is contrary to the policy of some other newspapers who do not have backbone to fight for their party if it is going down to defeat but who wave on high the banner if there is victory and a job in sight The fight made in the campaign by The Telephone tells in the election vote, while ireher counties were giving majorities of thousands for Mr. Roosevelt the Monroe county majority was meagre in proportion to the landslide, and Monroe county voted against Greenwood. I started" to read The Telephone during the campaign of 1928 when The Telephone was the onlyBloomington newspaper that printed the Al Smith news. In that campaign when some so-called Democratic papers were afraid the A': Smith news would contaminate them, The Telephone gave Al a fair break in the news columns, and this campaign I read aboui all the Democratic meetings in The Telephone,

j as I had to, taking no other paper. ' Then voted for Mr. Roosevelt. I

think The Telephone is just as good a Democratic paper as we have, and just lis good a "wet" paper in spite of saying' it is still "dry," for it is not afraid to print the news, and when it is not editorialing on these things I agree with just about everything The Telephone says.

! A DEMOCRATIC (ROOSEVELT) I VOTER.

To the Editor of The Telephone: Last week you dragged out and printed that old story about Abraham Lincoln riot supporting the "Maine law" in Illinois and once working in a "little still up a hollow." I think it was uncalled for to print this story. I am aorry to hear that it is in Mr. Beverldge'e book on Lincoln. You; say that Douglas was a "great statesmanand patriot' Well, a great many of us old people do not think so, we recall .that Douglas was a bitter foe of Mr. Lincoln, and was for years hand-in-glove with the southerners who brought on the Civil war with all of the suffering and sacrifices. I think when you write about Mr. Lincoln you could find plenty of his great deeds to write about Respectfully, my opinion, A WOMAN" SUBSCRIBER.

The best of your life is not the past if you hear the McFerrin lecture at the time and placfc stated below. No lectures have ever been given in this city just like them. There are advertisements that change the entire course, of our lives; Let this be" one of them. Every one who is tired come and find the new rest. If you are full of acid and gas, come. What objection is there to saving what health you have left. If you feel that you are growing older, poorer, wiser and worse, be present.1 If you belong to the "fret -and stew" association. Come 1 The speaker gives no treatments, does no curing, does not employ therapeutics. He is a "platform teacher and entertainer of rare ability and believes that the world is dying more from lack of knowledge how to eat, than any other one thing. - ' 1 . - ' He strongly advises early medical attention and frequent physica.iexaminations by your physician. Truly, the conscientious doctor is the best friend the people can have. Some people do not visit the doctor until they are about ready for the human scrap-heap and then because the dector can't make them over, they .give him unmerited blame .
