The Waltman Family Re-union. Saturday, Sept. 29th, 1900, was the day set to hold the re-union in the old settlers’ grove, but the rain prevented the meeting being held at that place, and the old home lot, hall and church in Georgetown were substituted for the grove. The dinner was spread in Hiram Waltman’s half. The time, until dinner was ready, was occupied by the relatives in renewing their old acquaintances around the old family lot, house and store. ’Dinner being ready the older members of the family were seated at two large tables with plates for fiftyfive, with Hon.P. P. Taggart at post of honor, aud after thanks by him-to the All-Wise for health, strength and the bountiful supply furnished, each proceeded to satisfy his appetite, and when through the table was again arranged, this time for the younger generation of Waltman’s, and so on until all their appetites were satisfied. After all had dinner the relatives repaired to the Presbyterian church, and in front of the church the artist had arranged the crowd iu position to suit and the group was photographed, after which the church was opened and all went in and occupied the afternoon in music, talks, laughter and tears until the setting sun told them they should take their departure. Then a handshake and a 4? God bless you till we meet again” was the end of the first re-union of the Waitman family.
THE DEMOCRAT. Published Every Thursday Morning by A- ALLISON SON ISIP Entered at the Nashville, Indiana, postoffica as second-class matter. Tlmrsday, Qet- 11, 1900, The Eepublicans of Brown county seem to be ‘holed up” for the winter. It is now October, 11th day, and not a public meeting has been held by them excepting the one atNeedmore held expressly to give Anderson Percifield an opportunity to announce hm apostacy from Democracy. With great effort the lone manager of the Republican party of Brown county got out about three hundred men, women and children to the Needmore meeting. Percifieid’s Speech was a labored and full confession of his sins as a Democrat, and a profession of present adhesion to the gold standard, to the protective trust breedjag Republican tariff, and he swallowed without “batting his eyes” imperialism, militarism, and government of the people without their consent, and taxation without representation. About onehalf of his speech consisted of an exhortation to Democrats to read certain psalms of Holy Writ, and to sing certain religious songs, all of which fell .flat and proved really a wet blanket on the audience. Nathan Powell, the Republican candidate for congress, was present and followed Peroifield, making a very pretty talk, and while avowing his Republicanism told the people that if elected tp congress he would seek to •represent the whole body of citizens of the district, and party interest should be pat by him above public good. As to the expectations of the Republicans the greeting was a failure as fco numbers, and its enthusiasm, was not at a white heat.
A big democratic meeting was held at Turner’s school house in Hamblen township last Wednesday night. The bouse was filled to overflowing. Com. P. Hanna made a musing speech. When you are iu town bBup in and gee our fall and winter suitings made to order from S15 up. Mansfield & Sfcader, Tailors, 404 Washington Street, Columbus, Indiana, David Graham, of Johnson township, has publicly challenged Anderson Percifield for a joint discussion of the political issues at Little Bine school house on Monday night, Noy. 5th. Bev. M. M. Durard, for two years Pastor of the 8. M. E. church of Nashville. has been assigned to a new field of labor in the cause of the Master. We are pleased to learn that the new field is a very congenial one both to him and Mrs. Duraid, as their old home is a part of the field. Rev, Darard was faithful in his ministerial wort and deserved a better recognition of his services than was given him by the Nashville congregation. Toward the close of his last term hero his health became much impaired, and for awhile his condition was considered serious. Ws are glad to I know that prior to his removal his health was much improved, and we hope soon to hear of his entire recovery, and hope that he Will jet proclaim the i “glad tidings” for many years to come.

Mr. Bryan charged it against Mark Hanna that he (Mark) was squeezing the banka, combines and trusts lor campaign contributions. Hanna sajs he is not squeezing them at all. Hanna is right. The trusts have come to a stand point where they can see that danger is Just a little way from them and they are “letting down” their milk freely. At Shamokin, Pa., on the 9th, ten thousand miners turned out on parade in honor of President Mitchell, all anent the great strike of coal diggers of the anthracite coal region of Pennsylvania, Eepublican prosperity has not brought these miners even decent wages. They strike for more pay and for recognition for their organization. “Oh, the times are good: every man that wMI work can get work,” say the Eepublicaa stump speakers. Why, yes, the miners and all other laborers can get work, at starvation prices, and that’s the sum of existing prosperity. McKinley prosperity is all absorbed by the trusts and combines,—they are having an unusually fat time and are bragging about it, but the working maa does not see nor feel the prosperity of which McKinley orators are boasting. Terre Haute, October 9, you learn that the electric street railway system is tied up. The employes have struck for an increase of wages. McKinley prosperity has not struck them at all, lit ail! When organized labor has to strike for living wages there is not prosperity .abroad in sufficient quantity to go ’round.

Roosevelt has gone through the west and north-west distributing a choice lot of stale falsehoods about Democrats. But what could be expected from a man who has taken pains to slander Quakers, farmers, workingmen, volunteer soldiers, colored troops, Prohibitionists and many others.
