The Mission of the Muncie Community Schools is to provide a quality educational environment that allows every student to maximize his or her potential and, upon graduation, possess the basic skills necessary to be a positive, productive, contributing member of society.

Muncie Community Schools is home to the most recently renovated school facilities in Delaware County. There are 18 district facilities including the historic Muncie Fieldhouse, built in 1928. MCS offers a choice of city limits or out-of-city limits residences in Center Township for attendance at our 14 public schools. Bus transportation is provided to over 4,000 students. All nine of the district’s elementary schools offer full-day kindergarten. All schools have full-time nurses and guidance counselors with counseling services provided to meet student needs at all instructional levels, K-12. Opportunities for instruction in 10 vocational and technical programs are provided for high school students at the Muncie Area Career Center, which also offers an extensive Adult Education Program. Muncie Community Schools has won 19 total state championships in boys’ basketball (9), boys’ cross country (3), girls’ volleyball (5), and wrestling (2).

Students in grades 4-12 are provided a wide range of opportunities for participation in interscholastic and intramural activities. Our outstanding instrumental and choral programs offer multiple opportunities to participate in concert, orchestra, jazz band, marching band and flag corps and have earned numerous championships at the state level. A 40-acre outdoor learning center, known as the Adventure Environmental Learning Center, includes a state-of-the-art Challenge Education Program promoting team building, self-esteem, trust, and compromise between participants. Two elementary schools, one middle school, and both of our high schools link with Ball State University to provide professional development for novice and experienced teachers as well as develop research about teaching. The Muncie Community Schools Educational Access Cable Channel 99 airs 24/7 to provide the school community with news, programming, a calendar of school activities, and the weekly school menus.
