continued from page 1 giveaway committee includes a variety of volunteers and a planning committee that includes Micah Maxwell, Peggy Byers Fisher, Stephanie Hake, Perry and Carolyn Cummings, Ingrid Morey and others. The committee has been meeting since late summer to ensure the annual event goes off without too many hitches, and Maxwell is counting on volunteers like Wilson, who appears with little fanfare, ready, willing and able to work. “He doesn't really call or let us know he's coming, he's just always there,” said Maxwell of the former Muncie mayor. “Alan is like so many other people - they just show up and want to be put to work.” The event, which could see up to as many as 800 people fed this year, will be hosted at Muncie Central High School with meals being served and delivered from 1-3 pm. Right now, food is being ordered and donations are still needed. Maxwell said. Nearly 30 turkeys will be prepared by MCL Cafeteria, and other local merchant donors include Concannon's Bakery, Blondie's and Bruner's Restaurant. Hake and Fishers have also been helped by Habitat for Humanity and the Muncie Sanitation Department in getting food-donation totes to various schools, centers and churches
who are collecting food for the event. In addition to the meal giveaway, each family will receive a bag of groceries to take home as well, Maxwell said. The Thanksgiving Day outreach is free and open to the public - people are invited to come to the school and eat and fellowship. Cornelius
and Teresa Long, also longtime volunteers, are heading up the entertainment for the day, and a local act, “Logan and Colin,” will be doing a ventriloquist act, as well as an historic re-enact-ment. The Longs - owners and operators of God's Grace and Mercy Beauty School - are excited about this year's
event, which has included a diverse group of performers. Anyone needing a ride to the school can get free transportation from MITS, who will provide a shuttle from 11 a.m. to 3 pm. Individuals and families that are homebound or desire to stay home are invited to call 765-741-7511 to request
meals to be delivered to their location. For more information about the Feed My Sheep Community Outreach, donations or volunteering, please contact Micah Maxwell at 765-741-7511; email at [email protected] or visit our website at www.feedmysheepmuncie.org.
