POETRY CORNER
Feel Down, Call Up Sometimes, life ain’t nothin' but adversity Seems like everyone in the whole world be ignorin’ me And when I step out on faith I be in the minority Yet everyday I make god my number one priority While feelin’ like life can't possible get no worse for me Ho bitter, O god must my chat’ning rod be? Ain’t nothin’ but clouds of darkness bangin’ over me Is there anything worth hopin’ for, any change You foresee? How will I ever feel refreshed, reborn, recreated, and free If I cannot first resolve this crisis of personal identity? Will the Doorkeeper to my soul ever give me the key So I can find out for myself how to just be me? Jesus can work it all out He’ll solve your mystery Forlike the Visa Card, He’s everywhere you want Him to be He may not come when you want Him not quite so quickly, But He’ll always be there right on time to give you the victory. So whenever you feelin’ low, down, and out, Or whenever you havin’ about with self doubt, Don’t sit around wearin’ a frown, or toutin’ a pout Instead give Jesus Christ your first shout out Cause He’s stop number one on the Father’s prayer rout I mean when you got a problem, He’ll go right to the heart If you get down on your knees and do your part. He’ll get your life in order and get you a new start Cause your situation is already at the top of His chart So don’t trip As His Word you grip Don’t give Him lip Cause His blood has dripped From out of His hip So you can dip Into the blood that’s fully equipped
To revitalize, restore, and renew the sin sick See, that’s why He’s my number one pick His blood’s got me feelin’ live, loud, and lyrical, Got my praises uplifted, “bout His spiritual miracle Of His kingsom vast, rich, eternal, and imperial I finally know the things in front of me is all immaterial. So don’t vent Or get your heart bent Or your emotions pent Up for down His spirit is sent When prayer is your answer it’s time well spent. No more questioning, Jesus will tell you exactly what He meant. So just keep the faith and hold on cause He’s able To pick you up and turn you around watch Him turn the tables On your situation it’ll be more than a fairy tale or a fable Cause when you live for Him, you’ve got a new label So why not call Him up? Just give Him a dial. It ain’t like He won’t listen you ain’t on trial And even if it’s been a while, He’s got your file And knows how to reverse your upside down smile Cause believe it or not. He’s walked a mile In your shoes, He’s dug you out of your pile Of burdens on cue Cause you are His ChiT And He cares about you Soc all Him up His name ain’t unlisted It’s written in the book and on your heart don’t et it twisted To handle your problems He has personally insisted So do you know His number? Are ;you finally convicted? Or are you uncertain and ready to resist it? Have you finally heard His call? Or have you completely missed it? Don’t block the blessing
He’s Provided go out and get it! That’s right call up your Risen Savior in heaven. He’s got your situation on lock twenty four seven. Get up out of my seat And greet The day feelin’ .complete, Knowing that I’m in for a treat For today is the day I meet The rhythm behind the beat, The reason behind the rhyme The source of my syncopation And the Keeper of all the time Today begins the beat of the harmony of humanity And silences pride, prejudice, ignorance, and vanity Wisdom and power and truth. Lord You hand to me In a world consumed with injustice, inequity and insanity Your spirit and Your Word fill my heart with no limit, I got all this praise inside and nowhere to send it But letL bust the beat up in here for a minute And show the world why we so passionately defend it I sing a song for the One who made every creature, I shout “Hallelujah!” day and night for the Divine Teacher. Caught up in the moment. Lord, I step to Your beat, I throw away my past as I jump to my feet, ‘Cause I can’t keep my seat Knowing that all of my enemies you defeat. That through Your power I can finally face the heat And my trust in You is all You entreat. This vibe’s got me thinkin’ of a higher place, Shoutin and singin bout some of that amazing grace

Can’t even keep track of the manifold blessings I face As I move to the rhythm of the Beat Keeper of the human racer. Sometimes His story comes out in musical sound. And I break free of the sin and uncertainty that once had me bound Then the words come out clear and complete sincere and loud I sing “I once was lost, but now I’m found “Cause He picked me up and He turned me around And He placed my feet on solid ground!” I sing “He’s got the whole world in His hand.” And “Jesus is a rock in a weary land.” I sing “Who is this Jesus, Who is this Man?” And “I won’t complain,” I need you” and “Stand” Now the whole world’s swayin’’ to and fro. But the trumplets of truth are beginning to blow Sayin “None of this here is just for show!” For the Lord, Your beat waters us daily so we can grow Closer to You and begin to appreciate and know That only through You can our passion and praise flow. Only You can deliver us out of the hands of the foe. Only through You can the race of world weary slow. Only You have power over things up above and here below. Only You can put that finger
poppin praise on our hands. Only Your grace got us shoutin “I thank You in advance!” For You we sing, we shout, we pray, and we dance. For You we exclaim our thank you’s and hallelujah’s and amen’s My spirit and my soul You manage to capture When the rhythm of my soul becomes holy rapture It’s that rhythm of truth that rhythm of the soul That rhythm of youth that rhythm of the old It’s that rhythm through the storm and the rain and the cold. It’s that rhythm through the storm and the rain and the cold. It’s that rhythm of the Beat Keeper’s salvation foretold. Lord, I’ll march to Your beat. I’ll dance to Your tune For Your miraculous presence never comes too soon Your beat goes on, morning, night, or noon To the discord of this world I am finally immune Now “I give You my life, my love, my all” Through your three part harmony I finally hear my call My mind is set straight my praises stand tall And I’m ready to get back up again when I fall Yes, the rhythm of my soul finally has its own window, And my faith and myt praise have reached a holy crescendo Copyright 2003 by Patrick Elliott Alexander ©
