Boys Choir of Harlem operates the choral curriculum of the 600 student Choir Academy of Harlem, which educates students from grades four through 12, combining conservatory quality artistic instruction and performing opportunities with studies designed to help students acquire fundamental perceptual and conceptual understanding of the five traditional subject areas: English, math, science, social studies and foreign language. In addition to the classical academic disciplines, students are exposed to a competitive artistic experience through course work in music, theory, piano, movement and dance. Thousands of students have greatly benefited from the principles of hard work, honesty and discipline that have guided the instruction at the Boys Choir and the Choir Academy of Harlem. A miraculous 100 percent of the graduating class of 2004 has enrolled in institutions of higher learning across the United States. Since its inception close to 40 years ago Boys Choir of Harlem has become internationally recognized for its virtuoso performances at such venues as the White House for four presidents, the United Nations as well as in Europe and Asia, and at major historic events, including the visits of Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II.
