Africare Dinner to honor Colin Powell next month
WASHINGTON, D.C.The annual Africare Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner will be held Oct. 13, in Washington, D.C. The Africare Bishop Walker Dinner is held each year in honor of the late John T. Walker, the first African American Episcopal bishop of Washington, D.C., and long-time chairman of Africare. First held in October 1990, the Africare Bishop Walker Dinner is now the largest, most prestigious annual event for Africa in the United States. Each year, the Africare Bishop John T. Walker Memorial Dinner brings together more than 2,000 people. Those attending usually include African heads of state, ministers of commerce and foreign affairs, leaders from the

African Union and the United Nations, U.S. government leaders, diplomats, corporate executives, leaders of national organizations and private individuals. These are people who share one focus: They care about Africa. This is the largest annual event for Africa in theUnited States, with proceeds supporting the work of Africare.
