Achievement Academy announced that Essence Balfour, of Muncie, Ind. has been named an AllAmerican Scholar. Balfour who attends Muncie Northside Middle School was nominated for

the national award by Renae Lumpkin. She carries a 3.8 GPA and competes on the school basketball, volleyball and track teams. Balfour will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook, which is published nationally. "Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in American history. Certainly, winners of the American Scholar Award should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement," said Dr. George Stevens, Executive Director of USAA. Cunningham of Newport News, Va. The Academy selected All-American Scholars upon the exclusive recommendations by teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors. Once awarded, the students may be recognized by USSA for other honors. The United States Achievement Academy (USAA) has established the All-American Scholar Award program to offer recognition to superior students who excel in academic disciplines. The AllAmerican Scholars must earn a 3.3, or higher, grade point average. Only scholars that are nominated by a school instructor, counselor, or other qualified sponsor are accepted. These scholars are also eligible for other awards given by the USSA.
