Mayor’s Office City of Muncie, Indiana Dan C. Canon, Mayor EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 01 - 2004 WHEREAS, this administration believes that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an eminent man who through the power of ideas and speech, changed the iives of all the citizens of the United States of America for the betterment of mankind; and WHEREAS, Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. was a protector of the racial and ethnic minorities of our country, and this administration believes and supports his ideology; and WHEREAS, this administration is committed to conducting its business without regard to race, color, or cultural distinction; and WHEREAS, it Is the goal of this administration to provide equal opportunity ki ail city matters, therefore it is fitting and proper that the citizens of Muncie, Indiana - should honor the memory of and contributions made by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to our country; and NOW, THEREFORE, by the virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Muncie, Indiana, it is hereby ordered as follows:

1. Broadway Avenue, beginning at its southern boundary and proceeding north to the McGafiiard Road intersection is designated as Dr. Marlin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Boulevard. This designation shad not change the name of said Broadway Avenue, but shal be a Memorial designation which shall indude signage on and along the designated area indicating the area as a Memorialized Boulevard in honor of the late Dr. King. This designation will take effect on or before January 1,2005, 2. Broadway Avenue, beginning at its southern boundary and proceeding north to the McGalliard Road intersection shaH be named Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard effective January 1,2007. 3. 1 hereby reserve the right and authority to change the name of the current Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard which now exists in the City of Muncie, Indiana so that it does not conflid with the newfy designation.
