Frank Scott Jr. continued from page 1. other people think," Scott stressed. The 21-year-old graduate of Central High School said men should work on building integrity within themselves rather than focusing on competing with others. "It's crazy in the world today," Scott said. "It's so competitive." He said he believed the superstars portrayed on television and the life of luxury they live makes an impact on normal Americans. He said many people want to imitate those who have it
all.
"Men," he said, "need to be themselves. Don't be intimidated by other men or what they have. Don't feel like you have to live up to other people expectations. Don't try to please other people." Scott, who often ministers through Christ Temple Church, said some people want to make money the fast way. "You can get out there and sell drugs and make money real fast," Scott noted. "But I've never seen any drug dealers with long term investments. It's a fast way to
jail."
Scott said there were alternatives to the fast life. . "Clean up yourselves," he said. "Pull your pants up. How do you expect to get a job that way? Wear a nice colored shirt for one day. Go fill out some applications." He admitted those suggestions may not be the easiest
way.
"It is difficult," Scott said. "It takes maturity." Scott said he had always been a people person. He said he always tried to be there whenever a friend needed help. He said his nickname while in high school was Pastor Boogie. "Every since I was in high school, I was a leader type," Scott said. " I write a lot of poetry. I was an athlete. I was popular. Friends would seek out my advise. I've always had people skills. Graduating from Central in 2002, Scott was a speaker at his commencement. While in school in participated in basketball, football and in the swing choir. He is a member of the youth team at Christ Temple, where he helps organize programs for youth. He has done ministry work twice during trips to Jamaica and during one trip to
Germany.
He said being able to help others was most gratifying. "It's awesome to be able to change a situation," he said. "I've always had the ability to work with young people." He said his interactions with others has given him cause for concern, especially about the number of youngsters with absent or not so active fathers. "We have a lot baby’s dads, but we don't have a lot of fathers around here," Scott said. "There is a difference. "A father is someone who is in the household with his family. He may not live there, but he is in the family," Scott stressed. "A baby's daddy doesn't want to pay child support and only visits when it's ordered by the court. "A lot of young people don't even know who there father's is," Scott added. "Its hard to grow up to be a man if you don't have a man to live up to." Scott said he had great
parents..
"He's awesome," Scott said of his father, Frank Scott. "I can talk to him about anything. He supports me. He corrects me, too. That is what has taught me to live a life of integrity." He described his mother, Sheila Scott, as being "a true lady. "My mom’s awesome, too," Scott added. "If I ever grab onto a young lady, I would want her to be just like my mom." Scott said it was his hope that he would be able to give to others the same type of support that he has always received from his
family.
"I want to be able to give back to other people," he said. He said he and a friend, Adrian Barrett, were working to develop a cell group which would offer males ages 16 to 35 an opportunity to get together on a regular basis and discuss realities of life and ways of bettering themselves. He said he hoped that other similar groups would be started after the initial group so that more people would be able to be helped. He said the groups would be no larger than about 15 persons. Scott said the plan was for the group to start meeting by the end of July. Anyone interested in participating can contact Scott by calling Christ Temple Church at 284-1783.
