Kendra D. King, and Derek L. King, in the Youth Spotlight this week

Kendra D. King Kendra is a 5th grade student at Sutton Elementary School and president of the Student Council. She is a member of the Sutton choir and winner of the school’s 2004 Spelling Bee. She was also a

participant in this year Muncie City Spelling Bee. Kendra has 3.9 grade point average on 4.0 scale. Her favorite subject is math. She participated in the Muncie Civic Theater, playing the leading role of “Gina,” in the musical presentation of “School House Rock.” Kendra is a very active person and wants to become a lawyer. B2K, is her favorite recording group. Her favorite color is blue and she prefers pizza to any other foods. She wants to become a lawyer.

Derek L. King

Derek L. King is the 16- year old brother of Kendra and is a 11th grade student at Muncie Southside, and has 3.8 grade

point average on 4.0. Scale He scored 1190 on S. A.T. this year. Derek is a member of the Student Council and Starting Point Guard on the school basketball team. He also plays for the Spiece Blaze A.AU. basketball team. His favorite subject is math. Derek wants to become a clothing designer someday. During Derek’s leisure time he enjoys rap and R&B music his favorite entertainer is Kanye West. Lasagna is his favorite food. Red is his favorite color. Janet L. King and Kin L. King are Kendra and Derek’s parents. “Derek has

always surrounded himself around older individuals, which has made him very mature. He has a very close relationship with his dad and brother Kelly and he loves to volunteer with younger kids. We are very proud of his accomplishments,” said his mother. “Kendra is a very loving child, her smile tells the story from the moment you are around her. She always says” ’she will be the first lawyer who has a beauty shop upstairs’ her mother explained.
