Know Your Rights Tuesday, April 6, 2004 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Carnegie Library Downtown 301 E. Jackson Street Presented By: Muncie Human Rights Commission Future Choices, Inc. April is Fair Housing Month. To commemorate the 1968 passage of Fair Housing legislation, the Muncie Human Rights Commission in conjunction with Future Choices, Inc. will present a seminar. The focus will be on commonly asked questions by the disabled regarding public housing. For example: • Do I need a record of my disability? • What if I have a bad tenancy history or criminal record as a result of my disability? • Will the manager keep my information confidential? • What should I do if I need an accommodation? • What about my personal care attendant? • When can a housing manager legally evict me? These and other frequently asked questions will be discussed. An overview of fair housing laws will be included in the program. We are all aware of the detrimental effects of smoking behaviors. Smoking cessation is extremely important for those with disabilities especially if medical therapy like oxygen is necessary in the home. Beth Quarles of Future Choices, Inc. will give a presentation on Smoke Free Hoosier with Disabilities.
