POTERY CORNER

DOUBLE EXPOSURE Being a Black man, I must be two men This something I must train myself from within It is not enough to be myself Half of the time, I must be someone else I must act and win nothing less than an enemy Daily, I will deal with racism and envy I have to be superior to my counter part And have reliable data to prove us apart My color will no longer let me in That chosen time will never come again I am a man and everyday that will be tested That’s why education must be invested For a man’s strengths are inside his head And not for what he can do in bed The secret is to prove myself better That’s if I want to get a real job, if ever So many times, I have to be my own best friend And force myself to endure it all to the end I have come a long way, but there is more to go It’s a long and winding road to have success, you know I believe it is worth it, I’ll say it again and again Its hard work and I must be two men Clarence E. really pray. Prayer each sincere and true, Prayer mixed with faith that God will Do! I wonder what would come to pass If, even from the tiniest lass. Each member would bow down and pray; Not once, or twice, but thrice each day Asking our Lord for power within. For grace to keep from all know sin. For strength to witness in the way And for His fellowship today. John A Maker

MY BROTHER AND ME My brother and I once loved one another, If it rained we’d run together for cover. We’d laugh and sing and we’d think not of woe. For strength to one another we bestowed. But something happened to my brother and me, We somehow stopped thinking of ourselves as “we” Ronal H. Matsusaki, MD August 29, 2003

TWO CRIPPLES Two cripples entered a church one day; Crippled but each in a different way. One had a body strong and whole, But it sheltered a warped and twisted soul; TVip a

halting gait, But his soul was tall and fair and straight. They shared a pew, they shared a book. But on each face was a different look. One was alight with hope and joy And faith that nothing could -destroy; The other joined not in prayer or hymn; No smile relaxed his features grim. His neighbor had wronged him-his Was sore He thought of himself and nothing more. The words that were read from the Holy Book Struck defended ears and a forlorn look. To one came comfort his soul was fed; The other gained nothing from what was said. \ Two cripples left the church that day; Crippled but in a different way. A twisted foot did one body mar But the twisted soul was sadder far.

There was no one to pay man’s bond The price was just too tedious Jesus said let me go on trial He took off His royal robe He loves us, He wanted to lead us It really was a long way 72 furlongs He came through He was born of a virgin in a stable He lay He lay there for me and for you Mean men looked for Him everywhere They sought and sought to kill Him But the plans had been made The time was not right Three wise men were only to come near Him He grew, he was strong wise and alert He knew of the great tribulations For He came down to go man’s bond For the sins for the world For the races for the nation He worked with Joseph at the age of twelve In a small little carpenters shop He got himself lost in the courtyard At the temple In mind He knew He had a job to do He had to be going He could not be stonoed

Mary became very concerned For Jesus was never a home She questioned she chastised But soon gave up Somehow she knew He would roam He stopped by the waters He lived by the sea He preached to woman and men He healed the leper He raised the dead It was love in Him He had chosen disciples He taught them to pray And how to catch fish at sea Matthew -Mark- Luke -John Bartholomew and Timothy He preached the sermon on the mount Crying blessed are ye when men revile you Persecute and hurt you You will have peace in me The crowd got restless hungry and tired Jesus was filled with sympathy with five barley loaves Three little fish He fed them at Galilee Jesus pressed on making his way Going from city to city Healing the sick, raising the dead For He would die on the cross Oh what shame and what pity
