Singing at the State Legislature. Solar Dos Camaras
THANKSGIVING continue from page 1 The dinner was the culmination of a monthlong food drive that encompassed a number of Muncie schools and businesses. The schools filled 45 gallon barrels with canned food and area businesses supported the drive with donations of products, food, money and services. The annual charity event was started in 1996 by George and Teresa Huggins with the help of Other organizations. The event's popularity has been growing steadily ever since. 'Some schools filled up as many as four barrels
or more. We collected about 15000 food items this year," said Huggins. Huggins, who once served as a cook in the army, is also amazed at how the dinner has turned out over the years. "Its the loving and giving spirit of the community that makes it work. No-one can cook for 500 people alone. Last Thanksgiving the whole place was streaming with volunteers. We had 60 or more people helping," he said. He recalls how overwhelmed he was the night before the first dinner in 1996 by the sheer volume of work he thought he would have to do on his own. "I went home and started reading
the Scripture and praying. The next day volunteers in came from all sorts of places. That day I was reminded of Jesus feeding the multitude in the wilderness. When God gives us directions. He knows what we are capable of." Huggins said. "I wish to thank everyone who participated in the event and all the businesses who helped. My special thanks go to the following outstanding volunteers: Wilma of the Muncie Central Cafeteria. Mica Maxwell and Perry Cummings." MORE PHOTOS ON PAGE 20
