BOOK REVIEW
Book ofters interesting mix of religion, romance
Sin By Crystal Rhodes Publ isher Genesis Press Cost $835
The Rev. Nedra Davis has no idea her future has been indelibly set in motion by a fleeting acquaintance from the past A woman of great strength, compassion and resolve, Ned as she is called, moved from her Kansas City, Mo., hometown to Oakland, Calif., to accept the
call God had placed on her life.
Her decision to enter the ministry was partially based on the dose relationship she holds with her mother, also a pastor. Yet, Nedra is confident that she has accepted the
path God has chosen for her.
In a few years the statuesque minister built up the attendance and spirituality of Mount Peter’s Baptist Church. Her innovative pregrams and crusades earned her the title of the “Anti-Drug Queen.” Undaunted by the danger of retaliation, Nedra turned dope houses into decent, affordable housing, helped to rehabilitate drug offenders, secured employment and assisted in getting foster care for children often left hungry, abused or orphaned If s her reputation for getting the job done that brings her free to face with Sin,
Sinclair Reasoner that is. Handsome and fastidious, he is a man with a dubious past
and obvious haunting demons.
Sin, as he is usually called is a very successful businessman in need of help. But not for himself. Sin has come to the
reverend to ask for help in finding suitable care for two youths living in deplorable conditions. Soon thereafter, the boys’ mother dies from a drug overdose. It is after
her funeral that Nedra and Sin free the fret that they are attracted to each other. That fact has not escaped Nedra’s two best
friends, Sharon and Carla.
Nedra, who strongly believes in the
sanctity of marriage, has led a life of celibacy and restraint. But time after time, Sin appears in Nedra’s mind and events are quickly unfolding. At stake are her relationship with God, the church, her reputation and her life. I found this book to be totally engaging and very relevant This fast paced, romantic, yet inspirational, novel just lifted each character from its’ pages, portraying them as your comrades or enemies and as real people with struggles, hopes and
dreams.
Each battle, whether a victory or a defeat becomes your own. You find yourself wanting to write the story’s end. I could not put the 300-page book down. I read it in one
Not be be missed are the spiritual nuances that show .the great mercy and grace of God. I recommend this book for male and female adult readers, book clubs
