Gary, Jara make this week’s spotlight

by Judy Mays Gary Gilliard, 12, is a seventh grade student at Northside Middle School where he has a 4.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Gary’s favorite subject is math. He is a tailback and linebacker on his school’s football team. Gary is a member of Word of Life Christian Center where he is in the R.Y.O.T. youth ministry. In his spare time, Gary likes to watch television, play basketball, football, talk on the phone and spend time on the computer. His favorite family acitivity is going out ot eat or eating at his aunt Casey’s house.

His favorite food: taco salad. Gary said his role models are his brother, Christopher Lynch, a law student at Valparaiso University and Eddie George of the Tennessee Titans football team. “I admire them because they work hard at what they do,” he said. The best advice Gary said he’s given is not to be a quitter. “My advice to others is the same, plus stay out of trouble, don’t do drugs and have a good life,” he said. The best advice Jara said she has received is not to listen to negative things other people say.* The advice Jara wants to pass on is to be your own person. Her favorite book is Super Fudge by Judy Blume. Her favorite movie is “Nutty Professor II.” Jara said, “I’m not sure what my biggest challenge is. Everything is pretty balanced at this time.” She is the daughter of Shelby Rowe and James Harris.
