March 4-10 is county’s severe weather awareness week

Delaware County— Commissioners have signed a proclamation declaring the week of March 4-10 “Severe Weather Awareness Week” acknowledging the importance of public awareness, preparedness and education in dealing with severe weather. This proclamation coincides with the governor’s proclamation. Schedules events for the week include: The movie “Twister” will be shown at the Yellow Brick Road Theater at the Muncie Mall during the week will all tickets sales donated to the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency to help fund

public awareness projects. There will be a free showing all day March 4. Dr. David Arnold, professor of meteorology at Ball State University, is conducting a series of classes open to the public on severe weather watching and storm chasing. The 2 hour classes will be held in the Ball State Cooper Life Science Building, Room 466 at 7p.m. each evening. March 8 intermediate, March 15 advanced, and March22 organizational. Dave Tucek, National Weather Service, will present a K\Skywarn class for emergency response personnel at the Eaton Volunteer Fire

Department from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on March 3. Delaware County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is also taking an aggressive attitude in the placement of warning signs throughout the county. “To alert the citizens of severe weather there are currently 21 sirens places throughout the city and county and four additional sirens pending installation,” said Bill Gosnell, EMA Director. The EMA has a variety of publications available for the public on severe weather. For more information call 7474888.
