Evangelistic group to host March 10 session
The Delaware County Evangelistic Association and The Delaware County chapter of the American Family Association will present “In Defense of Mixing Church and State.” This all day seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 10 at First Baptist Church, 309 E. Adams St., Muncie. Special presentations will be made by Vickie Barress, state director of American Family Association, and Gary Kah, author of New World Religion. A patriotic celebration titled “God Bless America” will be at 7 p.m. To R.S.V.P. call (765) 281-1555. * * * The History Channel (R) has presented programming to honor the achievements of African Americans as part of African American History Month. “Time Machine: Black Aviators Flying Free” at 10 p.m. on March 3 and “Movies in Time: Tuskegee Airmen” at 6 a.m. also on March 3. Now available from the History Channel is a new teacher’s manual. This study guide will be
linked to national history and social study standards and is available at www.historychannel.co m/classroom. The guide will cover the role of African American voting rights within the larger context of the Civil Rights Movement, the internal struggles of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the role of the media during the Civil Rights Movement and Dr. Marten Luther King, Jr., effectiveness in using it. This guide is available for free to educators. * * * Area high school juniors may learn more about entrepreneurship and earn a $1,000 college scholarship through a residential summer program at Ball State University. E n t r e p r e p provides students with fundamental skills needed to start and operate a business. The program is free. Application deadline is March 23. That’s when the original play, “Trouble in the Choir” will be performed on the stage of the Muncie Center for the
Arts. Written and coproduced by Clarence Motley and Demetrius “Dee” Harris in conjunction with CM Poetry Club, the play will feature an all new cast. According to Motley some members of Ball State University’s Voice of Triumph (VOT) wanted to hone their acting skills. Pastor Kevin Woodgett, director of the choir and musical director for the play has even written all new songs. A huge success the first time out, Motley encourages those who saw the play the first time and those who missed it, not to miss it this tim.
