The fair is being advertised over radio, in newspapers, through fliers, billboards, posters and church bulletins and the electronic screens of some banks. This year’s fair features health screening for, among other things, cholesterol, glucose, sickle cell, syphilis, Hepatitis B and C, prostate cancer, blood pressure and HIV. There will also be child immunizations, adult vaccines and sports medicine provided. The services are free. The organizers estimate each participant will receive about $1,000 worth of services at the fair. About 600 participants have attended the fair each year since its inception in 1 995. The number of people who have benefited from the fair’s activities is not known because as any medical follow-up on the screenings is confidential, between doctor and patient.
