At the annual Indiana Order of Police state conference, 285 delegates representing over 12,000 Indiana law enforcement officers from across the state met in Clarksville and were addressed by Gov. Frank O’Bannon and Congressman David McIntosh. Afterward, the Fraternal Order of Police announced that O’Bannon had been overwhelmingly endorsed by its members. Indiana FOP said, President Tim Downs echoed the sentiment of the delegates when he stated, “Gov. O’Bannon has shown his support for law enforcement officers, our families and our survivors. He had demonstrated his commitment to enhancing wages and benefits and supports collective bargaining for public safety officers. Jl He has been instrumental in securing the land and funding for a Public Safety Memorial that will be located west of the Indiana State Capitol grounds. Gov. O’Bannon is pro law enforcement, and we’re pro O’Bannon. Meanwhile, the Indiana Troopers Association has also announced its endorsement of O’Bannon in his bid for a second term in office. Founded in 1979, the Indiana Troopers Association is a not-for-profit service organization. Membership is extended to members of the Indiana State Police below the rank of lieutenants, Indiana DNR Conservation Officers and Indiana Excise Police. Also eligible for membership are retirees and Indiana State Police Pioneers, who are state police officers with 20 or more years of service. ITA President Michael Nufer said, “We look forward to working with Gov. O’Bannon during the next 4 years and trust him to keep Indiana law enforcement on the right track. We have seen positive results during the current administration and I think it is important to maintain the highest level of law enforcement for the people of Indiana. Working together with Gov. O’Bannon, we can accomplish this.” The Indiana Troopers Association appreciates Frank O’Bannon’s leadership in winning increased compensation for the state police, conservation officers and excise police. We also appreciate his cooperation in important educational programs for Indiana’s children and their families, Nufer said.
