By T. S. Kumbula A rolling stone gathers no moss. So the saying goes. Apparently that does not apply to Kevin E. Kimbrough, the hardcharging vice president and virtual chief operating officer of the Payton Wells auto dealership franchise. The Indianapolis-based company has 12 auto dealerships, four of them in Anderson, Ind., where Kimbrough has his offices. country. Kimbrough was born Dec. 20, 1962, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Sara Blackburn Kimbrough and Edward Kimbrough. When he was 6, his parents divorced. Today his father lives in Seattle, Wash., while his mother, who has reverted to her maiden name, lives with him in Indianapolis. Kevin Kimbrough was the second of three children. His older sister, Fawn Jones, lives in Lansing, Mich. His younger sister, Aledra Kimbrough, died last December. As a youngster, he
bounced around the country quite a bit. “Some people think I moved around as if my parents were in the military,” he said, his freckled face lighting up in a smile. His early education was in the Indianapolis Public School system. Then he moved to Brebeuf Prep School in Indianapolis, Oakland Technical High School in Oakland, Calif., Decatur High School in Decatur, Ga., before graduating from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. By The Editor The 30th annual Indiana Black Expo Summer Soul Fest will kick off at 7 p.m. July 10 with an ecumenical service at Light of the World Christian Church,
Indianapolis. The Rev. Jesse Jackson has been invited to be the guest speaker. Other events slated for the same day include a golf outing and a Black Business Conference. This year’s Summer Soul Fest runs July 10 to 16 and includes the annual Corporate Luncheon, receptions, State of Black Indiana Address, a Black and Minority Health Fair, an Employment Fair and musical extravaganzas. Summer Soul Fest, one of the largest African American events of its kind, annually draws
hundreds of thousands of people to the Hoosier capital. Highlights of this year’s summer celebration include: July 10: Indiana Black Expo Ecumenical Service Light of the World Christian Church.
