Ball State Seeks outstanding Hoosier women nominees Ball State University’s College of Sciences and Humanities is seeking nominations of notable Indiana women for the 2000 Perham Awards Celebration. Perham award recipients are Indiana women, by birth or adoption, who enrich the lives of others through their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to their profession. The Perham Award Committee seeks nominations of women who have made outstanding contributions to a variety of areas. The specific categories for the awards include: leadership in education (particularly mathematics); research in science or mathematics; leadership in community and/or university service; leadership within the business community; excellence in undergraduate or graduate student achievement; leadership in advocacy for women; leadership in women’s health issues. Other categories of distinguished accomplishments by and for women will also be considered. The award honors the memory of Bernadette H. Perham, Ball State professor of mathematical science for 16 years. She was known for her distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and service. “Dr. Perham was deeply committed to breaking down barriers to achievements for women and girls in all disciplines,” said Rebecca Pierce, Perham Awards Commitee member and associate professor of mathematical sciences. “She was active at the local, state and national levels on issues concerning women and girls.” Nominations must be postmarked no later than April 24. Nominations require a letter which specifies why the nominee should receive the award and a category which describes her major contribution. Those nominating the women should include their names; mailing addresses and phone numbers along with the name, mailing address, phone number and email address, if available, of the nominee. The recipients will be honored at the second annual Celebration for IndianaWomen of Achievement in October.
