Rep. Adams seeks student pages for 2000 legislative session INDIANAPOLIS—State Rep. Tiny Adams (D-Muncie) announced he is looking for students who are interested in serving at legislative pages during the 2000 session of the Indiana General Assembly.Adams said the House of Legislative Page Program is available to students 13 or older interested in seeing how state government operates. “Through the program, students can come to the Statehouse and see a full day of legislative activity,” Adams said. “Along with visiting the capital building and touring such locations as the governor’s office and the Indiana Supreme Court chambers, pages have the chance to see the legislative process firsthand. They will be able to witness floor sessions and committee meetings, and help staff members with constituent services.” To take part in the program, students should write to: State Rep. “In your letter, you should include your name and age, the names of your parents or guardians, home address and telephone number, the school you attend and two different dates that you can come to the Statehouse through Feb. 24,” Adams said. ‘You should know that a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday is the best weekday to attend.” Participants receive an excused absence from school. They are responsible for their transportation to and from Indianapolis. “Any student who has an interest in the workings of the state government should take part in this program,” Adams said. “The experience can be even more enjoyable if you come with your friends on the same day. If you desire to come in a group to serve as pages, please note this in your application letter.
