Luebertha Hubbard-Boyd Ida Bell Smith
Luebertha Hubbard-Boyd was bom on February 10, 1934 to the late WC Hubbard and Lillian Hubbard in Macon, Mississippi. She was united in marriage to Johnny B. Boyd, Sr. on December 23, 1948 in East St. Louis, Illinois. To this union, she was blessed with eight children. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age. She was a member of the house of Worship. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchil-dren. She departed this life on Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at her home on 1120 S. Gallatin, Marion, Indiana. She leaves to mourn her passing, husband, Johnny B. Boyd, Sr., mother, Lillian Ball and brother Charles (Ivie) Hubbard, of Marion, Indiana; sons Johnny B. (Linda) Boyd, Jr., Darryl (Carole) Boyd, David Boyd, Donald (Patricia) Boyd, of Marion, Indiana and Bobby (Denise) Boyd of Cleveland, Ohio; daughters, Linda (John) Trice, Alisa Boyd, Regina Boyd, of Marion, Indiana; eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends, special friend, “Pat Rogers.” Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service, Marion. Mary Ann Matthews Mary Ann Matthews was born on January 3, 1954 to Herman Rogers and Priscilla Washington in Monroe, Louisiana. Mary accepted Jesus as her personal savior at Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church under the pastor of Richard Washington. Mary departed this life on April 11, 1999 in Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital at 2:45 p.m. She leaves to mourn her homegoing her mother, Priscilla Washington; one son, Charles Matthews, two daughters, Doris Matthews, Threase Matthews; grandmother, Hariette Randolph; three brothers, Clarence Matthews, Elsor Matthews, Edgar Washington; three sisters, Ireane Hall (husband: Charles), Connie Washington, Ellen Washington, all of Marion; four grandchildren, and a special friend, Robert “Jerry” Harshaw, Marion, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service, Marion. James Campbell James Campbell, 80, died Sunday at Ball Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and President of the Brotherhood. He was also President Emeritus of Northeastern District Brotherhood Association, boxing coach of Golden Gloves, Boy Scout leader, and softball and basketball coach for the Whitely Community Center. He was a greeter at K-Mart for eight years. He worked at Chevrolet Muncie Plant for 28 years. He was a veteran. He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Willie B. Campbell; three sons, James Campbell, II (wife: Deloris) of Indianapohs, Richard Campbell (wife: Annette), Muncie, Samuel Campbell, Detroit, Michigan; two daughters, Melissa Campbell, Dayton, Ohio, LeChelle Campbell, Muncie; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Hattie Campbell and a brother, Richard Cooper. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service, Muncie.
Mrs. Ida Bell Smith was born August 21, 1928 in Pleasantville, Mississippi. She was one of 14 daughters born to Charlie and Josephine (Payne) Standback who are deceased. In 1947, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Willie B. Smith and they cherished their companionship for 43 years. Mrs. Smith moved to Muncie in August 1966. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Nesbitt, Mississippi and united with Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend A.L. Dew. She departed this life on Wednesday, March 24, 1999. She shall be cherished in memory by her daughter, Emma Jean Joyner, Muncie; two granddaughters, Charlotte Joyner, Shelia Wilson (husband: Reggie), Muncie; three grandsons, Willie Standback, Eric Joyner, both of Indianapolis, Tony Joyner (wife: Tamika), Muncie; five sisters, Earlean Dockery (husband: Utah), Muncie, Meralene Standback, Ora L. Oliver, Gertrude Boone, Rosemary Baptist (husband: M.C.), all of Memphis, Tennessee; a brother-in-law, Lucius Young, Muncie; five grandchildren, 23 greatgrandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and eight sisters, one of the eight sisters was Hannah Young. Arrangements were handled by Carmichael Funeral Service, Fort Wayne. Bertha Louise Guy Bertha Louise Buy, age 64, a former Muncie resident, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at home in Indianapolis. Bertha Guy was born December 7,1934 in Whiteville, Tennessee. She graduated from Muncie Central High School and was employed by Ontario Corporation and retired. She leaves to cherish her memory Deborah Burnett, Charlezetta Dennis, Lucinda Paicely, all of Indianapolis, and Juanita Lindsey of Muncie; two brothers, Monroe Buy, Salisbury, Tennessee, Gaston Lovett, Germany; three sisters, Mary Jo McKinney of Memphis, Tennessee, Thelma Spears of Gary, Indiana, Lenora Rodger, St. Louis, Missouri; one aunt, Willeva Wright, Muncie; eight grandchildren; Kevin Madden (deceased), Quincy Dennis, David Burnett, Kevin Paicely, Jr., Ashlie Paicely, Crystal Paicely, Christopher Shirley, Whitney Dennis; four great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her only son, Jerry L. Dennis, father, Walter Guy, mother, Emmaline Lewis. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service, Muncie. Mary F. Dukes Mary F. Dukes, 91, died Thursday in Parkview Nursing Center. She was a member of Greater Second Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Mothers Board, Choir and the Missionary Board. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Ruth Hisbon, Muncie; one special niece, Sarah Reynolds, Mansfield, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Martha Marks and her husband, James Dukes. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service, Muncie.
