YOUTH SPOTLIGHT Siblings LaKesia, Marcell in this week’s spotlight
By Judy Mays LaKesia Irene Elmore, 17, is a junior at Southside High School where she has a 4.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Her favorite subject is algebra. She is a member of Decca Club. LaKesia attends Trinity United Methodist Church where she is in the usher ministry. “My role model are my parents,” said LaKesia. “I admire my mom’s hard work and perseverance through difficult times.” “My dad has always been there for me, to encourage me. My dad is successful and I want to go to college because
he did.” In her spare time, LaKesia said she enjoys going to the mall, reading and watching TV. Her favorite family activities are reunions and going to the movies. “The best advice I’ve received came from my grandmother, Irene: T can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’, (Phil. 4:13) “That is exactly the advice I would give to someone else,” she said. LaKesia said the best book she’s read is Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy. Her favorite movie is “Set It Off.” “I think my biggest challenge is to keep a positive attitude,” she said.
She is the daughter of Robert and Delores Elmore. Marcell Pierre Elmore, 14, is LaKesia’s brother. He is an eighth grade student at Wilson Middle School where he has a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. His favorite subject is math. Marcell is a tackle on his school’s football team. He attends Trinity United Methodist Church. Marcell said his role model is his dad. “I admire my dad because he went to college,” said Marcell. In his spare time Marcell said he likes to play basketball with his best friend, play video games and go to the mall. “The best advice I’ve been given is to treat others the way
