By Judy Mays Rosita Mae Knox, 14, is a freshman at Central High School where she has a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Her favorite subject is English. Rosita has received numerous academic and music awards. She is in the school choir, plays point or shooting guard on the girls’ basketball team and is a cheerleader. Rosita said her role model is her brother, Jason, 24. “1 admire my brother because he gives me good advice,” she said. The best advice Rosita said she has been given is found in Philippians 4:13, ”1 can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.” “Really, I'd give the same advice to others,” she said In her spare time Rosita said she likes to sing, listen to music, dance, play basketball and talk on the phone. “Waiting to Exhale.” One of the best books she has read is Roots by the late Alex Haley. Rosita said one of her biggest challenges is peer pressure. “I try to keep my focus by reading the Bible,” said Rosita. She attends Lighthouse Church. She is the daughter of James and Carolyn Knox.

Eric Micheai Millard

Eric Michael Millard, 17, is a senior at the Indiana Academy. His favorite subject is anatomy. He has the equivalent of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Eric is a member of the Black Student Association and the French and Spanish clubs.

He frequently attends Union Missionary Baptist Church. “My role models are my parents, I have to admire them because they are hard workers. They push me to do my best, but at the same time are encouraging.” “They never express disappointment, unless I’ve done something I know I shouldn’t have,” he said. The best advice he has received is to do his best. “That’s the same advice I’d give to others,” said Eric. In his spare time Eric enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends. His favorite movie is “Psycho.” The best book he has read is Beloved by Toni Morrison. Eric said his favorite family activity is to have frequent barbecues. Eric came to the academy from William A. Wirt High School in Gary, Ind. He is the son of Robert and Shirley Millard.
