We voluntarily asked the American College of Surgeons to survey our Cancer Center.

Result: Ranked Among the Country’s Rest

J | |he Boards of Directors at Ball Memorial Hospital and Cardinal JL Health System thank our employees for their hard work and dedication during our recent inspection by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS). Ball Memorial Hospital, Cardinal Health System's flagship, has long offered a comprehensive cancer services program to meet the needs of the East Central Indiana, Our cutting-edge technology and clinical trials offer patients the most current, innovative treatment approaches in radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Those aspects of our program, coupled with four-year ACOS accreditation (the highest possible), proves Ball Hospital's cancer center is among the best in the country.

What is ACOS? The ACOS Commission on Cancer is the leading standards-setting organization for cancer programs in the United States. Institutions that receive ACOS approval have voluntarily committed themselves to providing the best diagnoses and treatments of cancer. The approval also shows the hospital meets national standards established to ensure cancer patients receive the best possible care at the local level. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 1.2 million cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. Only 20 percent of the country's hospitals have approved cancer programs, and more than 80 percent of patients newly diagnosed are treated in these hospitals. What does our score mean to you? ACOS approved hospitals can compare

their care and outcomes using survey data from the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), which records cancer registry data from hundreds of U.S. cancer treatment organizations. This registry allows Ball Hospital to maintain contact with its patients diagnosed with cancer and ensure they receive continuing care and assistance. In addition, it allows the hospital to participate in national studies to improve patient care. In short, we take seriously our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve. We realize that in order to provide the best possible care to you and those you care about, we have to continue to meet or exceed the industry's highest standards. Our ACOS accreditation is further evidence of Ball Hospital and Cardinal Health System's dedication to being a leader in providing quality health care for the residents of East Central Indiana.
