Fred John Walker
Ernest Jackson
Fred John Walker was bom April 8, 1910 in Linville, Tennessee. He was the eldest of seven children bom to Sam and Mary Walker, all of whom preceded him in death. Fred was a decorated World War II veteran and played briefly in the Negro Professional Baseball league. In 1947, he migrated to Muncie and shortly thereafter fathered two children, a son. Fred Almus and a daughter, Sharon (Abcumby) Walker. As an employee of the Ball Glass Company, he became one of its Union’s first black stewards. In 1950, he dedicated his life to Christ and later became a founding father of New Hope Baptist Church where he held membership until his death. On the morning of June 19, 1998, Fred was called home to glory. In 1982, he was wed to Marilouise Smith of Muncie. In addition to Marilouise, he leaves to rejoice in his memory a son and daughter, both of Detroit, Michigan; six grandchildren, Denelda Walker, Comealious Walker (wife: Crystal) of Pontiac, Michigan, Winston, Latreasha and Angie Grinage, all of Detroit, Michigan, Andrae Kirsten, Pontiac, Michigan; a son-in-law, Charles Abcumby of Detroit, Michigan; special niece, Mary Faison, Detroit, Michigan; kind and thoughtful stepchildren including Benita Smith of Muncie; 16 great-grandchildren; and long time family friend, Cora Mae Evans of Muncie and a host of family and friends. Arrangements were handled by Garden View Funeral Home.
Thelma E. Sawyer Thelma Sawyer was bom on May 3, 1908 in Farmland, Indiana to Seth and Clara Sawyer who preceded her in death. Thelma was raised in Farmland and attended the Farmland High School. After graduation she went to work for Dr. Vanlamcamp where she worked faithfully as a nurse receptionist for over 45 years. Thelma received Christ at an early age. She was a charter member at Modoc AME Church. Thelma served faithfully as the church’s musician, Sunday School teacher, trustee and church secretary. Thelma was known for her warm smile and her willingness to always help those in need. She enjoyed music and working in her garden where she provided produce for family and friends. She moved to Muncie to stay with her brother, Myron Sawyer, in 1988. Despite her age, 90, Thelma remained active around the house. She would cook and clean and even go shopping. Thelma died Tuesday, June 23, 1998 in her sleep after a short illness. She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Myron A. Sawyer, Muncie; one sister, Garnett Sawyer, who preceded her in death, two nieces, Mary E. Middleton (husband: Charles), Detroit, Mich., and Mary Sembly, Anderson; two nephews, Tom Sawyer, Mack Sawyer (wife: Sally), both of Indianapolis. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service.
Ernest Jackson, 38, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in Ball Memorial Hospital. A Mississippi native, Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Southside High School and had been a member of Boys’ Club and Gateway Center. Survivors include his mother, Druella Jackson; his ex-wife, Dorothy Jean Jackson; three daughters, Natasha Porter, Constance Bennett and Conner Bennett; six brothers, Tommie Lee Ross, Cornelius Ross (wife: Julie), Leroy Jackson, Albert Jackson, Hashann Jackson and Larry Jackson; and seven sisters, Jessie Goodwin, Thelma Davis (husband: Robert), Dorothy Ross, Sweeter Robinson, Samelia Robinson, Lilita Jackson,
and Shetrice Jackson. Two brothers are deceased. Services were at Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with burial in Beech Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Faulkner Mortuary.
Eula L. Jones
Eula L. Jones, 89, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in Ball Memorial Hospital. Born in Humbojdt, Tenn., Mrs. Jones moved to Muncie in 1944. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she belonged to the usher board, the WAU and the Mother’s Board. Survivors include a son, William F. Jones; four daughters, Jessie Warren, Birdie Ingram, Mildred Brown and Evelyn Jones; two brothers-in-law, William F. Jones and Mose Dollison; 15 grandchildren; 42 greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles H. Jones, is deceased. Services were in Union Baptist Church. Arrangements were handled by Faulkner Mortuary.
Ashza Torshana LeShae Smith Ashza Torshana LeShae Smith was bom June 18, 1998 and died June 22, 1998 at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis,
Indiana.
She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Ashley Smith, Marion, Diane Fouce, Marion; three sisters, Tyeisha Fouce, Chasity Fouce and Chantel Fouce, all of Marion; maternal grand parents Fred and Betty Fouce, Marion;
paternal grandfather, Lee Smith, Dallas, Texas; paternal grandmother, Marilyn
Smith, Marion, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service.

Gabriel Johnson Gabriel Michael Johnson, infant, died in Ball Memorial
Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Amy Allen; his father, Terrance Johnson; maternal grandparents, Luann Allen and Kenneth Allen, and paternal grandparents, Alberta Motley
and Duane Branson.
Graveside services were in Gardens of Memory. Arrangements were handled by Gholar & Gholar Funeral Service.
