My priority as sheriff is to provide the citizens of Delaware County a professional, responsive, and highlytrained Sheriff’s Department. My training and education, involvement with the Indiana Sherilf’s Association Board of Directors, Delaware County Coordinating Council on Drugs and Alcohol Abuse, along with my appointment by the Governor of Indiana to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute Board have given me great insight to lead the Sheriff’s Department into the 21st century. My main objectives have been to establish a pro-active police agency that aggressively seeks ways to increase public safety, and improvements within the Sheriff’s Department to provide the best service for the citizens of our county. I am very proud of all the members of the Delaware County Police Department and the many accomplishments we have made over the last few years. I am proud and honored to be your Sheriff, and hope to continue to lead the department in this positive direction in 1998.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

* Justice Center/Jail lawsuit settled * Started Victim’s Advocate Program for people involved in violent or abusive domestic situation. + Acquisition of thousands of dollars in state and federal grants • Purchases of state-of-the-art equipment that has place Delaware County near the cutting edge of technology. • Training of officers in all areas of the department. it Added additional security for the Justice Center • More security officers have added to the security level of the court system enhancing the safety of those visiting the Justice Center. it Started the Sheriff’s Department Show • Shown twice a week on public access Channel 15. • Educates the public in many safety issues.

FUTURE GOALS

Responsible and responsive to the community’s needs ★ Continue to cut costs to save taxpayers money ★ Continue to search and apply for State and Federal grants ★ Expand the D.A.R.E. Program into the junior high and high schools ★ Continue to always look for ways to increase Public Safety
