Answering the call Couple provides meals for needy
The Muncie Times awarded a certificate to George and Teresa Huggins at its annual awards ceremony, for their work on the annual “Feed My Sheep” Thanksgiving dinner. The Feed My Sheep Thanksgiving Day Dinner began in response to a Divine call. George and Teresa Huggins answered such a call, as Peter did in the Bible, when Jesus instructed him to continue with the ministry of discipleship. (John 21:15-17) In 1996, when they first answered the call to coordinate a Thanksgiving dinner through the Teamwork Works program of the Educational TASCC Force agency, they know it would be a major undertaking that only God could bring into reahty. The fact that it would involve so many people in such short notice, i.e., funding sources, volunteers and contributors - was not that easy to fathom. As usual however, Go^l brought everything smoothly into perspective. The number of meals prepared and served in 1996 was 540. In 1997, the number prepared and served was 1,200. Thus, the Thanksgiving day dinners in volunteerism and have since been a major program activity of the Educational TASCC Force agency and a viable outreach ministry for George and Teresa Huggins. It is George’s and Teresa’s wish, on behalf of the agency, to take this time to extend their blessing of appreciation to all those who answered the call to their own hearts to share that special experience with them. It’s truly applaudable when a group of people, especially of the Muncie community, can work so beautifully together, as if there were no differences in politics, religion, or socioeconomic status. In any event that people can join in with one another and work together for status, the purpose of achieving a
common goal, truly illustrates the fact that “teamwork works.” Carrying out the Feed My Sheep Thanksgiving Day Dinner in 1998, and the years thereafter, however, will not just consist of meals, being provided on Thanksgiving. Moreover, there will be a demand for a greater focus on monitoring the needs for employment assistance, drug rehabilitation, education, family counseling and varied community support service. Ultimately, with the increase in volunteerism, community concern and participation, it is the Huggins’ vision for the Feed My Sheep Thanksgiving Day Dinner to become more of a harvest celebration of the agency’s successful outreach efforts during the year. The Educational TASCC Force agency owes a special debt of gratitude to the following contributors: The Muncie Community Schools System, The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Star Financial Bank, 1st Merchants Bank, Mutual Federal Savings Bank, Pacesetter Bank, American National Bank, The Muncie Times, Stoops Auto Dealership, Advanced Sign and Graphics, Texas Roadhouse, MCL Cafeteria, Full Gospel Temple, Domino’s Pizza, Kinko’s, Fire Station #6, Bassett Pontiac, Alltrista Corporation, Muncie Power Products, Jack’s Camera Shop, Christian Supply Center, Meijer, CS Kern, Merry’s Stadium Marathon, Wheeling Marsh Super Markets, Marsh Super Markets, Concannon’s Bakery, South Madison Street Center, Young Life, Central High School Honor Society, Antioch Baptist Church, Terrestrial Temple Church and His Honor, Mayor Canan.
