Club offers summer radio

Registration is being accepted for the Muncie Area Amateur Radio Club’s summer technician radio operator’s course, which begins June 7. The course is open to anyone of any age. No prior experience is necessary. For more information contact Robert Osborne at 284-0664. ♦ ♦♦♦♦♦ Over 450 entries from city schools were received in the Earth Day Poster contest sponsored by the Muncie Indiana Transit System. The posters depicted public transportation as a way to improve the environment. The winners are Madelyn Heskett, first grade, Storer Elementary School; Devin Vyain, second grade, Storer Elementary School; and Chris Goode, fourth grade, Grissom Elementary school. Each student will receive a $50 U.S. Savings with a certificate of achievement. ♦ ♦♦♦♦♦

Summer semester registration at Ivy Tech State College, Muncie Campus, continues through May 23 for day and evening classes. The office is open for registration 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The business office and bookstore are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday. ♦ ♦♦♦♦♦ Anderson and Madison County Community Hospital recently honored Esther Smith, a second shift environmental services supervisor and Selina Huston, a pediatric nurse, as Associates of the Month” for March and April respectively. ♦ ♦♦♦♦♦ Girl Scouts and adult

volunteers were honored and new members to the board of directors and nominating committee were elected at the Wapehani Girl Scout Council’s annual meeting and awards dinner at Chrysler High School in New Castle. The following people were recognized for their achievements in Girl Scouting: The Image Award, representing a positive reinforcement for all of the good things that girls are doing, was presented to Chelsy Shrout, junior Girl Scout, Summitville,; Kendra Van Skyock, cadette Girl Scout, Dunkirk; and Casey Sheedy, senior Girl Scout, Windfall. Deanna Rummel, senior Girl Scout from Cambridge City, received the Overall Image Award. The Broughman Scholarship is awarded to firsttime recipients on the basis of the applicant’s academic achievement in high school and her commitment to the ideals of girl scouting. Loni Walden, Marion, received the scholarship.

Graduating senior Girl Scouts are Stacey Renee Baker, Montpelier, Devon Denise Walters-Copeland, Muncie, Ginger M. Herrin, Hartford City, Marsha Diane Hinsey, New Castle, Tonnie Vanlandingham, and Loni Walden, both of Marion. Other awards went to Doris Becker, Marion and Debby Beckman, Marion for 15 years of service; and Anna Hampton, Anderson, and Carolyn Scruggs, Muncie for 20 years of service. The council also elected the 1997 to 1998 board of directors and nominating committee at the annual meeting. Newly elected members-at-large of the board of directors are: Melissa Mikesell, Yorktown, Laureanne Nordstrom, Muncie, John Bunch, Anderson, Rodger Cliff, Portland, Glenn Davidson, Mooreland, Inez Fox, New Castle, Connie Hogg, Winchester, Nicollette Johnson, Anderson and Barbara Turner, Muncie. Amanda Oxley, New Castle, was elected to 2-year term as senior Girl Scout adviser to the board. The Wapehani Girl Scout Council serves more than 5,000 girl and adult members in Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph and Tipton counties in east central Indiana.
