Representing more than 10,000 Hoosier Kiwanis Club members, district governor Glen Hootman,(left) presented a check for $124,741.53 to Riley’s physician-in-chief, Richard L. Schreiner, MD (center), and Keith B: Van Deman, president of the James Whitcomb Riley Memorial Association (right). Hoosier Kiwanians raised this money during the 1995-96 Kiwanis year to help the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for children. Hundreds of Hoosier Kiwanians will gather at the convention Center in Indianapolis on April 22 to commemorate 75 years of support to Riley Hospital. Since the early 1920s, the hospital has received millions of dollars raised by the men and women who wear the Kiwanis “K” here in Indiana. Riley, a referral hospital for Indiana’s most seriously ill and injured children, handled more than 130,000 patient visits last year. It is the state only comprehensive children’s hospital and serves as a resource for community health care facilities and hometown physicians.
