The Muncie Times retains the right to edit all materials submitted for publication. But because of the unique nature of poetry, we have suspended this rule for “Poet’s Comer”. African American poets often use the vernacular of the contemporary black experience. Their work is sometimes saturated with the language, rhythm and semantics of the streets. This language is their instrument, without which they cannot play their songs. At The Muncie Times, we will not try to stifle creativity. However, blatantly offensive, racist or sexist material will not be printed, of course, and we do reserve the right to choose which works to publish.
In the Wind I am here most of the time in a daze Am I going through a giant maze? Lost, because I don’t know where I’m going In the wind of not knowing “Someone’s” happy that 1 don’t know my way “Dream” is what it’s based upon they say. Clarence E. Motley When a person has no certain goal or direction, they can easily be influenced by someone who does have direction. Therefore, If you read the first word of each line, you will get my “Drift.”
Lift me Up Lift me up to Your greatness in my thoughts, in my deeds - Cast aside all that is useless in my heart, in my needs. Let me ever reflect all things through Your name - Sharing all that You gave us let me always remain. The child that You made me with that first breath of air - As you held me and smiled, yes, as You told me, “I care.” I’ve traveled some fast roads but right now I’m so near - Grant me all that I pray for It’s Your words I must hear. If I’m ever to know, Lord, all the Truth in Your book - Please grant me the faith, let me know “how to look.” For I need You, my Jesus, yes, as never before - Lift me up to your greatness let me walk through that door. Peace and love always

When you love someone You think you know All about that person That the life That touches yours so closely Has few secrets But the longer I love you The more I know you The more I realize that you are A very complex person
You’re full of private thoughts and feelings Tucked carefully away. In secluded corners of your heart Like hidden treasures Waiting to be found By someone who cares enough to look.
The Muncie Times is the first newspaper aimed at the AfricanAmerican community to last over one year in Muncie. We have been in business for 6 years.
I’ll always care enough To search out Those quiet corners of your heart Because loving you has been An endless voyage of discovery And I truly love what I have found
