BALL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
Dear Residents of Delaware County,
Ball Memorial Hospital has been accused by Delaware County officials of not filing an application for property tax exemption in 1995. Based on that opinion, the County Auditor’s office claims there will be a budget shortfall of $3.5 million in revenue for local taxing units. We do pay taxes on some of our properties but, because of our mis-
sion of service, the main hospital buildings have always been tax
exempt
As a community hospital with a long-standing interest in the welfare of the residents of Delaware County and East Central Indiana, we feel you should know the facts in this case: • We did file the necessary paperwork on May 4, 1995. • We have produced copies of the exemption application file stamped by the Auditor and have given them to the Auditor’s office and to The Star Press reporter covering this issue. • Our application for tax exemption covers both real and personal property and is the same one that has been filed in previous years. • If the Auditor believed we had not filed a tax exemption, the County Auditor was required by law (IC6-1.1-11-5) to notify us. • We were not notified. • Again, by law (IC 6-1.1-11-5), if we were not notified by the Auditor’s office of our failure to file a tax exemption, we would have until November 1 of the following year j WHEELING AYE.
