Two Muneie doctors certified Community Hospital adds in critical care, cardiology second pediatric nurse

Two physicians on staff at Medical Consultants, 2525 W. University Avenue, have been notified they have passed their board certification examinations. Lynn A. Witty and Michael John Moran are now boardrtified in their chosen fields. Witty, a physician previously board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine, is now also boardcertified in critical care medicine. Witty is a graduate of Ball State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in pre-medicine and medical technology, and Indiana University, where she earned a doctor's degree in medicine.

She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital, where she was chief resident, and a fellowship in pulmonary/critical care medicine at Duke University Medical Center, Durham. N.C. She has co-authored numerous articles for medical journals, including Chest. Clinical Chest Medicine and Pulmonary Radiology. Moran, a physician previously board-certified in internal medicine is now also boardcertified in cardiology, according to the American Board of Internal Medicine. Moran completed a residency in internal medicine at Indiana University Medical

Center. Indianapolis. He also | care along with pediatric nurse

practitioner Cathy Oplinger, R.N., M.S.N., to accommodate the tremendous growth of Kids Plus. “Due to the positive response from the community, we needed to hire another pediatric nurse practitioner,” says Jane Hosier, Kids Plus and

Pregnancy Plus director.

Working in collaboration with physicians and other health professionals, a pediatric nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has acquired knowledge and clinical skills in child health care through successful completion of a formal educational program. Lutz received her master’s degree in nursing and as a pediatric nurse practitioner from Indiana University School of Nursing in June 1996. Her undergraduate degree is from Cedarville College, Cedarville, Ohio. She will perform physical examinations and developmental assessments, treat common childhood illnesses, coordinate the care of common chronic illnesses, and

completed a fellowship in cardiology with an emphasis on interventional and invasive cardiology at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology, Indiana

University Medical Center. Moran has co-authored

numerous articles for medical journals, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and the American

Journal of Physiology. Medical Consultants has

provided health care services to East Central Indiana since 1968. Currently, the office has physicians in 23 medical subspecialties on staff, including cardiovascular disease, pulmonary, critical care, hematology, oncology, digestive diseases, rheumatology/immunology and endocrinology. M

Patricia “Beth” Lutz help families meet their health needs. Lutz, a former nurse at Riley Children’s Hospital, became familiar with Kids Plus during her clinical rotation and wanted to continue her experience. “I want to reach children who may not otherwise receive health care and introduce them to a whole life approach to their wellness,” she said. Kids Plus is also staffed by pediatrician Wilfredo Souchet, M.D.. and internist Beverley Perkins-Edwards, M.D.. who work with the pediatric nurse practitioner to provide primary care. Kids Plus, a 2-year-old program in September, serves children from limited-income families who otherwise may not have access to health care. It is an outgrowth of Pregnancy Plus, which serves limitedincome families during a woman’s pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum periods.
