Rev. Charles Duncan is the pastor of the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. and is the first black pastor in Louisville to be called to pastor another church in that city. He has been at Virginia Avenue Baptist Church for 11 years. Previously he pastored the Second Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Ky., and the Beargrass Baptist Church in Louisville. He graduated from Simmons Bible College with a bachelor’s degree in Theology. He has been married to his wife, Ruth, for 43 years and they have 8 children. Rev. Duncan has taught at Simmons Bible College for 13 years, written articles for the American Baptist Newspaper and conducted numerous classes and seminars.
His memberships include the Joint Board of the Baptist Fellowship Center, the State Mission Board of the General Association of Baptists in Kentucky and he has served as dean of the Kentucky State Body of the National Baptist Convention of America. Rev. Duncan’s awards include the Certificate of Appreciation from Jefferson County; Distinguished Citizen of Louisville; honorary Doctor of Divinity from Simmons Bible College; Kentucky Colonel; Outstanding Pastor/Teacher of Louisville; Outstanding contribution to the local Dawn Sunday Schools by the Eastern Star Baptist Church and a Community Service award by the Louisville Board of Education.
