move over to Muncie Central for the workshops. This year the breakfast and the workshops will be held at the same place.” Shelton also said members of
the Concerned Clergy were underwriting this year’s breakfast. The breakfast, which is free and open to the public, starts promptly at 7 a.m. Shelton said he expected about 250 people to attend. This year’s theme is “Together we can: Together we will.” He said, “The purpose of the King Day celebrations is to embrace the idea that when people work together, with total community involvement—not just the black community but the entire community—we can bring about positive change in the community. Most people embrace the issues in the T Have a Dream’ speech. But we need to go beyond that and translate that dream into reality. We can do that when the entire community comes together. “That’s why we worked so hard to include the community in planning activities for this day. We have had greater community involvement this year in planning
the day and we expect greater community participation. For example, this year the Ball State Student Government Association and the Ball State Black Student Association were involved in the planning. This year, the Ball State students will march on campus, as part of Unity Week, to the buses which will bring them to Muncie Central. “From Muncie Central, they will stage a candle light parade to Christ Temple Church where the evening activities will be held.” Shelton said the Ball State campus march will start at 6 p.m., with the buses leaving 30 minutes later. The candle light parade is expected to start at 6.45 p.m. The evening’s activities, which include presentations by Muncie Mayor David Dominick and a keynote speech by the Rev. Henry M. Williamson of Chicago, start at 7 p.m. ❖
