Tripping down memory lane to Muncie’s ‘colored circles’
Services Sunday at Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church: Sunday school at 9:30 o’clock, A.M. Blair, superintendent: morning worship at 11 o’clock by the pastor, the Rev. W.C. Irvin, music by the junior choir; A.C.E. League at 6:45 o’clock; evening service at 7:45 o’clock by the pastor. Music by the senior choir. Baby Day will be observed Sunday morning at Calvary Baptist Church. Breakfast will be served in the basement from 7 to 9 o’clock by the Sunday school. Morning service at 11 o'clock. The Rev. T.S. Gorden, of Indianapolis, will speak and assist the Rev. W.Z. Thomas, nastor of Calvary Baptist Church, in serving the Lord:s Supper. At 3 o’clock a pew rally will be held under the auspices of the Sisterhood. Rev. Tucker will speak, his subject “Seven Wonders m Revelations.” The pew captains are Mrs. Walter Carlock, Mrs. W.C.Frazer, Mrs. Emma Cioyd, Roy Johnson, William Underwood and W.C. Cioyd. The morning choir of Calvary Baptist Church will meet this evening at 7:30 o’clock in the church parsonage for rehearsal. A benefit tea will be given by Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church Sunday afternoon from 2 until 5 o’clock at the home of Mrs. John Wright on East
Highland avenue. The monthly church meeting of Calvary Baptist Church will be held this evening at 8 o’clock in the church. The Business and Professional Men’s Council will have charge of services Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Trinity M.E. Church, Third and Vine streets. Mrs. Connie Brown and daughter Joyce Francis, of Owenton, Ky., are the guests here of Mrs. Brown’s mother, Mrs. Arthur Wilson. The Phyllis Wheatly Club will meet Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Ralph Pettiford on East Kirby avenue. Mrs. Wynn Clemens will be hostess to Blue Ribbon Embroidery Club Monday afternoon at
her home on East Hines street. The Wogelo League will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Mary Stanley, 1315 East Fifth street. They will have as their guest Mrs. Ruth Brawley, who will demonstrate and teach handicraft to the members. Mrs. Luther Riffe entertained the members of the Entre tfous Club last evening at her home on South Pershing drive. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dungie and children have returned to their home in Dayton after visiting Mrs. Dungie’s mother, Mrs. Sarah Nash, of North Bums street. The Friday Group Amicitia Girl Reserves will meet this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Phyllis Wheatly Branch Y.W.C.A. Benjamin Carter, of Indianapolis, and Miss Loraine Allison were united in marriage Tuesday evening at 7:30 o’clock in the parsonage of Calvary Church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W.Z. Thomas.
Hurley C. Goodall, who is retired from the Muncie Fire Department, was a long-time state representative. He is now Visiting Scholar at the Middletown Center, Ball State University.
