Kites Can Kill.... In the spring a young man’s fancy may lightly turn to thoughts of love, but if he is very young, he is more likely to go fly a kite. When that happens, there is a serious risk to himself and to the people in the neighborhood should he engaged in the sport near electric lines, warns Mr. N. W. Stiffler, manager of the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company. “No one,” said Mr. Stiffler', “would deprive boys and girls of the fun and healthful exercise they get from kite flying, but every effort should be made to inform them of the hazards of flying kites in locations where the kite or its ‘string’ may Come in contact with power lines. “There have been many cases throughout the United .States of chidlren being electrocuted or seriously injured in this manner. “In addition to the risk to the life and limb of the kite flyer, there is always the possibility of inconvenience and sometimes danger to the people that the electric line supplies with power. “Within the past few days, a boy’s kite became entangled in one of the power lines on our system, causing a short circuit and considerable inconvenience to the surrounding customers. It interrupted power service to a large factory for 26 minutes and to the surrounding area for 3 hours before the service could be restored. Fortunately, the boy flying the kite was not electrocuted nor injured as too frequently happens. “If children realized not only their own danger but the risk to the community, I am sure they would cooperate. To cite a few examples, consider the plight of the patient in the hospital operating room when lights go out, or the helplessness of the fire department during a fire, should the electrically pumped water supply fail. The father of the boy whose kite knocks out our power line may lose wages if the line supplies the factory where he works. His mother may be unable to carry on her household duties. “To safeguard the lives of our youth, I should like to see the following warnings widely circuated: 1. Don’t fly kites near electric lines. 2. Keep kite string dry and never use when wet. 3. Don’t use metal or wire in any part of kite. 4. Don’t use kite string with wire or tinsel in it. 5. Never climb pole or tree near electric line to recover kites. 6. Better lose your kite than ydur life. “It would be most helpful,” concluded Mr. Stffler, “if these warnings were posted in schools, impressed upon parents at Parent-Teacher meetings, and discussed in school rooms, boys’ clubs, Scout meetings, and other places where groups of children can be informed of kite flying hazards.”

Mayor Holloway (Continued From Faere One) findings and receive comment from each of the city councilmen before issuing ian official statement concerning the adoption and the date of beginning for daylight savings time in Muncie. The concensus of public opinion would indicate that all cities should begin at the same time and if so, Muncie would begin the fast time at midnight on April 29th, which would mark Sunday, April 30th, as the first day of daylight savings time in this community.

Truman Tells (Continued From Pn?e One) the American public that the FBI

would maintain their confidences. To make pulblc FBI reports would be to break confidences, and persons interviewed in the future might be even more reluctant to furnish information. “In recent months, on numerous occasions, some citizens, shirking their responsibilities, have refused to furnish information on the grounds that it might be misused, and have gone so far as to decline to furnish information, even in application investigations, claiming they would do so only if forced by subpoena. “(3) A public disclosure of FBI reports would reveal the identity of sources of information, and in some cases, at least, would place in jeopardy the lives of confidential sources of information. we go as far as the Moon to serve our customers

When most people eay tKey’d “go as far as tKe moon” to please you, they’re talking in figures of speech. When we say it, we really mean it. The figures we use are right off the speedometers of our company cars and company trucks. Last year these 463 Indiana & Michigan vehicles traveled 5,556,777 miles ... in building and maintaining Jines, connecting new customers, answering hurry calls when something needed fixing, on all sorts of trips to help homemakers, farmers, and businessmen get the most out of their electric service. This distance they traveled is equal to eleven trips to the moon (and back!) and enough additional mileage to circle the earth 12 times at the equator. jWe know that our cars and trucks don’t look like interplanet space ships when you see them on the streets. They’re business-like, work-a-day vehicles that you take pretty much for granted. But in running up their astronomical mileage on routine and emergency trips, they are one of many reasons why you can take your electric service so much for granted, too.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES “Doctrine of Atonement" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, April 16. The Golden Text is: “If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (I John 2:1). Among the citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon is the following from the Bible: “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:14, 27, 29, 30). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Jesus represented Christ, the true idea of God. . . . Christ presents the indestructible man, whom Spirit creates, constitutes, and governs. Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth” (p. 316). “As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being * (p. 361).
