DEMOCRAT (Continued From Page One) a big way and “political doifPsters” immediately after the primary gave him a good chance to win in the fall election, it is thought now after a six weeks barrage of campaigning with the finals coming up next week that those chances seem to have been materially reduced. All signs now point to a complete Democratic victory Nov. 8. LEGAL (Continued From Page One)

the junker to run. It may also be remembered that it was the Post Democrat edited by the late George R. Dale who exposed that deal and caused the seller to return the money to the city. The recent action of the county commissioners in saving money for Delaware county was not a DEAL but rather a distinct mark of real credit due to the honesty and sincerity of James Osenbaugh, Walter Hudgel, and Marion Hofherr. advised. Something is wrong somewhere along the line and if Mayor Bunch really is sincere in his efforts to build a sewer, he should remove the obstruction without any hesitation. The PWA pocketbook is open and its guardians are looking out way, some sort of an organized effort should be made to get the funds that will be needed to bring about an improvement which Muncie really needs.” On January 15, 1936, Mr. Sutton writing in his column had this to say: “Even money, mind bets, that: We DON’T get the six bridges over White River in Muncie nor any of them; we DON’T get a sewer; we DON’T get a sewage reduction plant; we DON’T get the three state highways routed down Madison street. And I hope I lose all the bets and have to eat these words. Reasons for this pessimism? Plenty and ample but the story is not ready to be told—just yet.” On April 15, 1936, again Mr. Sutton wrote: “Daily it begins to look more and more like I may have to eat my words uttered two or three months ago when I predicted the intercepting sewer would not be built here. The federal allotment has been made, bonds for Muncie’s share of the expense have been sold and bids for the sewer pipe have been received. But still I won’t believe it. I’ll have to see men digging the sewer first and even then make sure they are not just digging for fish worms . . And more and more each day and each week in both Muncie’s Republican newspapers, predicting the present administration could not accomplish this and that. The whole improvement program put on by the present city administration during the last four years has met with opposition from all Republican corners in the city and county. No where has any help been offered by the Republican press or Republican leaders. And yet look at the results. Look

duce a correct list of registered voters for each of the 53 precincts in Delaware county. It is possible that some names may appear of voters who have died or moved from this city and county but it is certain that such persons would not cast a ballot anyway so it is unnecessary to create much confusion just a few days prior to the election daySECURITY (Continued From Page One) time comes. Do Health And Housing Count In Social Security. A basic insurance against losing a job is health. A basic insurance for health is decent housing. The Public Health Service, under the Social Security Act, has launched a nationwide program of public health. The United States Housing Authority has launched an $800,000,000 program for low-rent housing available only to people of low incomes and compelling clearance of slums. This program is the work of the Roosevelt Administration. Through it, 40,000,000 men and women already are building up insurance against old age; 27,600,000 workers have earned some credit toward insurance during temporary unemployment; approximately 3,000,000 of them have already received payments; 2,350,000 needy are being assisted in their own homes. President Roosevelt said, “Among our objectives, I place the security of the men, women, and children of ihe nation first.” Let Your Vote Count For Social Security.

diana Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1938: “Since Indiana is in a firm position both financially and administratively, we feel they are making progress in eliminating many of the undesirable features of the Federal and State Old Age Acts . . . We find that Indiana is in splendid position to carry this additional load (additional aged persons who become eligible when the age limit was lowered) as a result of having more than $24,000,000 in the state treasury. Your committee lias the utmost confidence in the present administration of the Indiana Welfare Act under Thurman A. Gottschalk, a member of Indianapolis Aerie Number 211 ...”

The American soldiers of the future may wear slate blue uniforms in place of the present olive-drab. The difficulty for the clothing factories to make uniform colors in olive-drab is one objection to the present color of the uniforms and another reason for making the change is that slate-blue is less conspicious on the field. It takes the rubber from two average rubber trees for a year to furnish the raw rubber in the average automobile tire. The Census Bureau estimates that the population of the United States on the first of this year was just a little short of 30,000,000. la

ful voter should ask himself this question: Should the improvement of this worthy cause be put in the hands of the Republican Party, which for 16 consecutive years of power failed to give any pensions to the aged, or should it remain in the hands of its parents, the Democratic Party? “At the last regular session of the Legislature, in 1937, another step was taken by the Democratic Party to Increase the Security of the aged. The eligible age limit was lowered from 70 years to 65 years, by which the number of those eligible was doubled. For the calendar year 1989, Indiana’s pension program ivill place $15,000,000 in the pockets of the elderly. “The Republican Party during its years of power sent the old people over the hill to the poorhouse, or let them suffer without lifting a helping hand. The Democratic Party has proven its sympathetic and sincere concern for the welfare of the aged.” Excerpts from the report of the Committee on Social Security, In-
