Curiosity leads 'to knowledge. To keep love you must return it. The hardest work is dodging work. The politician has a PROMISING career. Only one person can defeat you— yourself. Love grows only as wills bend and minds reflect. No great achievement without great enthusiasm. Moses was the meekest man— yes, he was married. The modern youth seeks d’plomas rather than knowledge. A light heart makes light work; a heavy heart, heavy work. Worrying- is so bad that some folks let their creditors do all of it. From Confucius: “National prosperity is found in righteousness.” First barujuet feature, turkey' stuffed with' sage; last feature, sages stuffed with turkey. In practically all sickness, the blood contains an excess of acids, caused chiefly by bread, meat, eggs and condiments. VERY ANNOYING

Frances Lee Barton says: *■— J TTAVE you waffle fans in your Jtl home? Almost every family has. If Sunday night supper is waffle-time with you, spring this surprise waffle on the family the next time you bring the waffle iron out. Make them with delicately wwzm- fine calie flour so they will b e feathery light and an unqualified success.

Orange Waffles

2 enps sifted cake flour; 2 tea-; spoons double-acting baking! powder; % teaspoon salt; 4 table-j spoons sugar; teaspoons grated; orange rind; 2 egg yolks, well beaten; 2/3 cup milk; 6 tablespoons melted butter; 2 egg whites, stiffly

beaten.

Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, salt, and sugar, and sift again. Add orange rind to egg yolks and mix well; combine with milk and add to flour mixture, beating only until smooth. Add butter and blend. Fold in egg whites. Bake in hot waffle iron. Serve hot with butter and orange sauce. Makes four 4-section waffles. o— Dad’s old pants used to ie cut down to fit Junior; now dad’s idea of a new suit is one that Junior oesn’t want any more.

School Lunch Important According to a few skeptics, the old fashioned school lunch eaten from a paper bag anywhere in the building or on the grounds is good enough. On that baMi sis a dime novel thriller is good liter,.1 ature and the child |||^! is justified in hiding in the attic or the barn to do his reading. As a matter of fact, we don’t believe that. Whatever may be our own pleasant memories of the secretly read thrillers of our childhood days, we prefer as parents to have our children like good literature. And we do our best to provide attractive libraries at school and in the community and at least a shelf or a reading nook in our

homes.

From food comes the child’s growth, energy, and strength. He works, studies, and plays on what he eats. On that score alone his nutrition deserves our closest attenion. The school lunch is one of three daily meals and therefore becomes significant, as a source of nourishment. For the child’s sake we eah’t afford to think of it as merely-a “stop gap,” while the child is away from home. It isn’t just a picnic, any more than going to school can be regarded as a party. The school lunch shrieks its importance. It calls for planning. It demands an attractive place, and the food question deserves just as much serious consideration as any part of thf child’s school life. Next week Dr. Ireland will writs about “Learning at Luncheon. n NEXT SUNDAY’S CHICAGO HERALD AND EXAMINER Will Contain 3 More Pages of Astounding Crime Pictures. Here Are Photographs That Show The Horrors That Have Been Perpetrated All Over The Country.
