Indianapolis, Nov. 12.—Setup of the hew chain store tax collection department was outlined yesterday by James Showalter, chairman of the state board of tax commissioners. Supervisors will have charge of collections for each congressional district of the state. Working under the supervisors will be from four to six collectors in each dis-

trict.

For Marion county, however, the program provides for a separate taxing district. A supervisor will he in charge of the entire county and will have about twelve assistants, Mr. Showalter said. Appointments for places on the chain store tax department probably will be announced late this week after the appointees have been approved by Governor Harry

G. Leslie.

L. C. Johnson of Indianapolis will be in general ^fiarge of the store tax department. He has been at work several weeks on preliminary activities incidental to the tax collection. o Starving Crew on Schooner Is Saved

Woods Hole, Mass., Nov. 9.— (U

reached Sunday night by the fcoast guard destroyer Davis, according to word received at the coast guard base here. The little schooner, two weeks overdue at New Bedford, had been at the mercy of a northeast gale for the past 48 hours. Its crew and passengers suffered from hunger because food and water had been exhausted in the vessel’s 64 days at sea. Its sails were in tatters and its steering gear either useless or gone. The James was found by the coast guard destroyer 100 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard. Those aboard snatched ravenously at bread brought aboard, the Davis said in a radio message received
