Elected chairman of the National Credit Corporation, th e $1,000,000,000 organization provided for in President Hoover’s plan for relieving frozen credits in the banks of the nation, George M. A Mild Winter Is Being Predicted Chicago, Oct. 22.—(UP)—So certain of a mild winter is city Recreation Supervisor Oscar Knop that he is betting $50,000 (public funds; not his pwn) on l>is hunch. ; “Fur on the squirrels is so thin you can see rlgnt through the bush of their tails,’ explained Knop. “The ducks have white pin feathers on their breasts, and hardly any real feathers, and dandelions still are blooming in Lincoln park.” Since all that is so, Knop is going to take the $50,000, in winter sport recreation funds, and put it in the bank. He’s not going to spend a cent of it until January 1 because ,as he has proven by the squirrels, the ducks and the dandelions, there’s going to he no snow for toboganning and no ice for skating until then. — o — Americanism: Using good publicity to build up great stores of wealth; standing helplessly silent while bad publicity makes the land daily poorer. The religionists’ idea that you are wicked if you don’t agree with him seems very narrow to the evolutionist who thinks you a fool if you don’t agree with him.
(By HENRY T. RUSSELL) (United Press Staff Correspondent.) London, Oct. 22—(UP)—The brilliant mind of Thomas A. Edison will continue to aid mankind, possibly through “some kind of mental telepathy,” Sir Oliver Lodge, scientist and spiritualist, said Wednesday night in commenting on the death of the Amer-
ican inventor.
Sir Oliver, who recently an-
nounced his own intention of communicating with the world after his death, told the United Press that he believes it certain that such men as Edison and the late Senator Dwight W. Morrow continue, after death, to exert influ-
ence on the affairs of men. “The dead,” he declared, “take
themselves and their characters and their histories along with them. The stages through which they have passed on earth have
had an effect which lasts into the
beyond.
The noted, white-bearded spiritualist said that Edison and Motrow will influence people on earth
from beyond as they
their lives.
