Chicago, Felt. A frenzied selling wave, during which nearly six million pounds changed hands, sent future deliveries of butter tumbling to the lowest levels ever known at this time of year on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange yesterday. The break drove prices down to 23 1-8 cents a pound, 11-8 cents under Monday’s final figures. Liquidation continued as a feature of the decline, with new selling appearing in the March delivery. Heavy buying set in at the
The weekly storage report showed that 800,000 pounds less butter had been removed from storage houses last, week than in the corresponding period last year. The unprecedented heavy production of butter now, induced by springlike weather, also was a bearish factor. Potato future deliveries also weakened and the March delivery declined to $1.60, but closed at $1.63, off 2 cents from Monday. • o 1

Alleged Slayer Rushed to Prison
Rushville, Ind., Feb. 4.—UP—A man giving his name as Wilbur Brown, Indianapolis, was captured near here today and rushed to the State Reformatory at Pendleton as the suspected slayer of Patrolman William Garrison, 34, Rushville. Lieutenant Al Romine, of the state police, and Rush county authorities hurriedly obtained reformatory commitment from Governor Harry G. Leslie as a move to protect the prisoner from possible violence at the hands of angry citizens. Brown was captured today by Ed Compton, deputy sheriff, about a mile from the scene of the fatal shooting last night while Garrison was investigating a report that a drunken driver was parked on the road just outside the city. When the Patrolman opened the door of the auto, he was shot three times. The killer, allegedly brown, fled into nearby woods. o

Low Temperatures In New England
Chicago, Feb. 4.—(UP)-^While temperatures in New England dropped far below greezing and heavy rainfall drenched the west coast yesterday, middle-westerners enjoyed the warmest and most pleasant February 3 in history. The mercury here climbed to 54 between noon and 2 *p. m., the highest mark it ever had reached on that date. Similar temperatures prevailed throughout the area. Slightly cooler weather was forecast for today, but indications were the ‘‘heat” wave which made the entire month o*f January one of the warmest on record would continue.
Lightning proves itself useful by producing, as a gift to the earth, about 100,000,000,000 tons of fixed
